TV Series

Watched the first two episodes of MobLand last night.

Fantastic if predictable fun.

Think I’m actually in love with Tom Hardy. He was born to play characters like this.
My only concern is that he might end up only getting these type of roles. He needs to pick up roles with a wider range, that's were Stephen Graham edges him out a bit and I know Tom Hardy has a lot of range but lately, he's becoming the Jason Statham of Mob Movies and he needs to shake that off quickly, Quit fucking around and give us season 2 of Taboo

There was talk a long while ago about Season 2……

Me and the mrs are doing The Prisoner, all 17 episodes then watch this afterwards and have a visit to Portmeirion

I remember going to Portmeirion quite a few times as a nipper in the very early 60s. An amazing place.

Looking at current entrance prices, I can’t imagine many people going more than once! It's so expensive for what it is! £17,50 for an FOC and you don't even get one of those golf carts to ride round on!

Couple of episodes of Mobland in.
Pretty good apart from the accents,Pearce Brosnan, not sure if he's from Cork or Caernarfon.

Considering he is actually Irish, you’d think he’d be able to pull off a better Irish accent.

I reckon him and Helen Mirren had a bet to see who could get away with the silliest Irish accent.

There are a lot of people who consider American Irish accents to be genuine Irish accents and not American accents even if the speaker has never been to Ireland.

Hollywood accents cater for Americans probably not for real Irish people.

I know this is a very old comment but it’s kind of interesting right now as Marvel decided (suddenly I believe) to show 2 episodes back to back of Daredevil because they were losing viewers and they thought a double week would pull people back in.

I think it depends a lot on the show. Some are written to be dumped all in one go and be binged on a long weekend, others (like severance) are better when you’ve got a week to digest and analyse the episode and get excited for the next one.

Binge watching shows does cover up a lot of bad decisions & writing IMO, because you don’t have time to really pull something apart critically when the next episode starts in 10 seconds, but it also really highlights when a series is too long or has too much padding. A lot of the old 13 episode Netflix originals could have been cut back to 10 and been better for it -and when you’re on your 3/4th episode of the day you feel it. Some of them just dragged on.

I think the Amazon LOTR show would have been much better received if it was released all at once - a lot of the criticisms and complaints of both seasons were answered later on, but fans had 6-8 weeks of complaining about it before the show resolved those complaints, and if it had been released at once people would have seen the whole show before judging.
I reckon folk should have the choice in settings or similar.

It's like streaming has become TV. But I get everyone will have a preference and what you've said makes sense!

The first three eps of 'Andor' has been interesting.

Not sure which is the subplot in the story unfolding, at times! But, it's definitely full on with some sketchy dialogue and reasoning.

Hope it becomes less frantic and clearer, but it's very Tony Gilmour in style which, I think, needs a change up sometimes.

Just watched the first episode of ‘The Last of Us’ after a recommendation off the guy on Sky Sports, in the middle of the football the other day.

It’s the sort of thing I’d normally like but the first episode never really got me itching for more.

I’ll watch episode 2, on my next break from work in about an hour and see if it gets any better.

I think if you’ve played the game it’s better, you see scenes from the game almost shot for shot. I’ve not started the second season yet I want to binge them, it’s a long time since I played then game so dont remember much of it.

Last video game I played was Space Invaders in Claremont Road cafè.

But anyway, watched another two episodes of the first series last night. Episode 3 was very good. I’ll stick with it for now at least.
