The abuse he's received is absolutely appalling. I actually think he's a decent pundit but that's by the by, people are using the most obscene racial language and sending him death threats purely because he gave his opinion on an incident in a fotball match, it's ridiculous and frankly unbelievable.

I'm glad he's taken a stand and managed to create a big issue out of it, Twitter needs to take more responsibility in dealing with this sort of thing. As for the Sun, well anyone who reads that load of shite needs their head testing after all the bollocks they've printed over the years.

Collymore aside I don't understand why Twtter doesn't actually do more for victims of a

The amount of misuse(which will only increase) will be Twitter's downfall.

You're right, people will stop using it if that sort of abuse is allowed to go unpunished. I'd expect it's difficult to bring criminal charges in a lot of cases as you don't have to input too many personal details when creating a Twitter account and there's no way to prove that the person who opened the account was the one sending the abusive messages, they could have been hacked, but in the very least the accounts should have been deactivated.

Collymore has now closed his Twitter account down. I personally think he's let the vermin win by doing that but somehow he has to take a stand. I wonder whether any other prominent Tweeters will follow suit?

Exactly my point.

It will only take someone like Piers Morgan to underline this matter and others will follow.

The internet is a mad place. I don't think twitter itself has done anything wrong, it is just a platform. Blaming twitter for their failings to deal with abuse is like going up to the inventor of the car and blaming them if your in a car crash. They have co-operated very well in most cases so far.

The problem is with Collymore, is that you can attack from a number of angles, so picking race above all of them is pretty stupid. Him quitting Twitter, isn't letting trolls win, they don't target him to get him off twitter, they do it for teh lulz, and that's not something you can stop.

Interesting analogy.

In light of what you've used and understanding you can't blame the inventor of the car for a crash, would you prefer a car with air bags or without air bags...??

Twitter can be made better, safer and with more responsibility knowing there are some idiots out there...

That's a good point and I think Twitter can do more with the verifying process so Twitter has the details of all of it's users. This may help them fetch information on trolls but trolls may still be able to set up accounts using false information.

-- Thu Jan 23, 2014 5:14 pm --

It's incredibly easy to sign up with fake information. Christ you don't even have to use fake info you can just use someone else (boring boring Milner).
