Txiki Begiristain

No it shouldn't. It's a valid point. If all the other clubs no we need to shift it, it leaves us in a shit position. So very simple.

If you're selling your car, you don't tell the guy buying it you've bought a new one and need it gone no matter what the cost do you?

That is exactly the position we find ourselves in.
By the same token you don't sell your car on Saturday then realise you need to get to work on Monday and so you go to the guy selling cars saying you're in desperate need of a car by tomorrow. I suspect it's a little bit of the two at the same time, you talk to a guy that wants to buy your car on the phone while emailing someone about buying their car. Hence the talk of Kolarov going to Turkey I think, Zabs to Roma and Yaya to Inter. Whether anything happens with those deals or other deals that we/the press don't know about we will have to wait and see.

I hope it's a case of us trying to flog this deadwood to any bidder who will do us half a favour by actually paying something, maybe we're trying to push it as long as possible to force them to take Chinese money rather than hang on for a free loan in Europe.

Whatever we're doing it will hurt the start of the season, and the longer they stay the less likely we are to win the league. The young-uns may be in at the deep end come the season starting, especially with only 2 more warm-up games now.

So I'd expect a sluggish start where we have ground to make up but hopefully we build momentum as the season goes on and flourish.

But our squad is full. Everyone does know we need rid.
We can't buy till we sell, if we do buy, we desperately need to sell.

I don't need to wait and see, our squad, the PL & CL rules are in place.
In any walk of life, it's harder to shift something if you're desperate.
We are currently desperate.

This is the problem. The 7 who's contracts are running down. 3 are full backs. No doubt all 3 want to stay and will be offered no where the money they are on at City anywhere else.
So to add Perez for example, we need to shift a full back as our squad is full.
It's going to be very hard to shift a full back. Clichy will stay. Kolarov isn't in his last year I don't think.
Sagna is still our best option and Zaba isn't ready to give up and nor should he.

We can't get ANYONE else till we shift others out.

Both Kolarove and Zab have been linked with moves They could both leave then the complaint would be void. Better they leave for something this year than nothing as would have happened had they not got new deals. I think people would be happy if we kept everyone but Kolarov and then replaced the others

Do you know what they are on ? Did Txiki not do new lower deals with higher bonuses.

Clichy could be a non issue if he does well this year he could get an extra year which is the same as what chelsea with say Terry do one year one year

What if we play 3 at the back ? What if Stones Denayer are able to play RB what if Angelino or Mafeo make it by next year ? What if we play a winger at RB or LB Even if only one of these things happens we could have a much reduced full back issue.

if we got another midfielder or a few of the players we are linked this window spending loads on full backs next year would not seem like a big deal because the team would very strong already

The complaint would certainly not be void.
If indeed we shift Kolarov or Zabaleta it will be of benefit to them and their new club.
I doubt we'd fare well.
That's my point.

We can't just get another midgielder. Our squad is full.

We need to move players on first or we'll get totally ripped off in any outgoing deals.

We are in a terrible position to negotiate. This is my point.

We'd also be desperate if we sold players before buying replacements, if we sold on 4,5,6 or 7 first team players would we not look desperate when trying to buy new ones? Is it better to pay more for replacements than lose on a selling fee? I don't know, I suspect it comes down to each individual position, player and team which is why I don't think it's as clear cut as we need to sell before we buy. Negotiations will be going on simultaneously with players, agents and clubs and that's for players going in both directions which is why I think we need to get to the end of the window and see where we're at before judging the transfers this year. That's not taking into account that Pep has only had two weeks working with the players so that he can get to know their capabilities for himself and deciding what he wants to do with then in regards to staying or going.

I think there is an assumption in this thread that Pep cannot work with certain players eg Bony Kolarov etc

I'm not judging the window at all. I've offered no opinion on our business thus far.

It would be much better if we weren't always at our limit.

We are already paying top dollar for our incoming players. So to me, it would be beneficial to get the most back for our players.

They're not shit dross, they are talented winners. We will be in a position where we can only milk them away.

Take Bony, he's a proven PL player, at a good age, if we're in a position where we need 4 players gone. How do you think that will effect his value?

What we sometimes forget is the needs of the buying clubs.
They have aspirations of their own, be it PL survival , EL hopes, titles in foreign countries etc.

In past years we flapped about "deadwood" and wondered if we would get royally screwed on players like Ireland, SWP, Javi, Rodwell, Sinclair and even Tevez but they all found homes where we got a fee above the expectation of some on here.

There is money waiting to be spent for decent quality players and our surplus is someone else's potential matchwinner.
