I don't understand how Txiki planned this team years ago, knowing that Pep was to be the eventual manager. I can't imagine that any of his purchases were made on impulse, and as CFG has stated before, our scouts compile dossiers upon dossiers of information. Is it lazy scouting then? The evidence suggests that it isn't. But then surely even then there is threshold as to what makes a player an acceptable target. Fundamental attributes such as movement, intelligence, or technique should be the basic requirements for a team at our level.
By that virtue, Txiki has failed to complement the stalwarts of our club after previous managements of poor purchases of Maicon, Sinclair, Nastasic, Garcia, and Rodwell etc. Whilst De Bruyne, Gundogan, Fernandinho are obvious purchases that fit in the mold, others like Mangala, Fernando, Delph, Otamendi, Bony, are nowhere near passing that minimum threshold of basic fundamental attributes. Add on to this our aging or injured stalwarts in Zabaleta, Silva, Yaya, Aguero or Kompany who have been the backbone of this team for half a decade, players who are still here but shouldn't be in Kolarov, Clichy, and i include Zabaleta, and Yaya in here, it's no wonder this team is under performing. In other words. this team is a cluster fuck of players with contrasting playing styles trying to fit into Pep's game plan's.
