Txiki Begiristain

Haha. This thread is proper groundhog day and just shows how weak minded some people are. Every time we lose a game (and it's been the same since autumn 2013) - it's all Begiristain's fault. People should try calming down and thinking before they bash their keyboards like angry children (I know that's hard for one of two).

Thing is mate, people are entitled to be looking to blame someone. It's not acceptable in any way what is happening this season and therefore the blame lies with Txiki and Pep, just can't say "it's the players" as ultimately that again comes back to Txiki and Pep.

Genuine question, who in your eyes is responsible for the atrocious mismanagement in the transfer market then?

Meh. People have wanted a reason to "blame" Begiristain for three years. It's a bit embarrassing.

I'd be looking at Khaldoun and asking him why they employed Txiki in the first place. If the answer was "to get Pep" then it stands to reason that they won't be sacking him anytime soon and we have to take our medicine. Either way 288 pages of "he's a fraud" hasn't really illuminated anything in my head.

I don't agree with the characterisation "atrocious management in the transfer market". Mangala, Bony, and Otamendi were three bad buys on Txiki's watch.

It's what he does to replace the four full backs, Vinny, Silva, Toure, and Kun, which will define him.

The fact he hasn't replaced the fullbacks already has defined him to a certain degree....

Mate... he has been here since 2012 and has not tackled the FB problem at all.

You can't judge him for what he hasn't done when you don't know why he hasn't done it. For example. Two years ago the club were ready to send Kolarov on his way until Pellegrini stepped in and demanded he be given a new contract because he liked him. That's not Txiki's doing, that's the manager's doing. Same can be said for the summer just gone. The option was there to send Zaba and Kolarov on their merry way. Pep blocked both moves. Had they both been moved on we'd at least have seen either more of Maffeo OR we'd have moved with force for a full back.

I appreciate there's a rush to judgment when things go wrong and I appreciate that Begiristain must carry his share of the responsibility for a lot of these things. But he doesn't exist in a vacuum and the final say isn't really his but that of the manager and the board. He simply makes recommendations and presents options. It's time people accepted that rather than behaving like he's some transfer Darth Vader that does as he pleases from week to week.

Great post Billy, people on here haven't got the first clue about him despite how much they like to think otherwise.

Of course he is heavily involved in the transfer/recruitment process, however,to make him the sole scapegoat, when things havent gone according to plan,is fucking pathetic - as are the same characters who keep bumping this thread.
