Txiki Begiristain

There's a difference between being above criticism and the criticisms levelled against him being a pile of shit.

Most people are just stating the squad isn't good enough and so far he ain't got value for money. I think the performances over the last 3 seasons from the squad he's built provide enough ammo for criticism.

That's the whole point.

Txiki's job is to build the squad. When we win games nobody bothers because everything is fine. When we lose people bump the thread because they're angry and explode with rage like a Catherine Wheel and try to blame everybody involved.

Txiki's job performance doesn't change on a game by game basis but the rage towards him does. That's the problem.

I also notice that nobody has blamed Khaldoon - another constant and ultimately the man who signs the cheques. Where's the 300 page thread blaming him for appointing Soriano, for appointing Begiristain, for appointing Marwood? For sanctioning the appointment of the managers and the spend on the players. He's as to blame as Txiki, who is literally a board member and reports to the Chairman. There isn't one because people like him which is what all of this boils down to.

For me the problem with this thread is that Begiristain gets blame for anything going wrong, and no praise for things going well - it seems that everything under his remit going perfectly is the minimum acceptable standard..

Mangala signing is bad? Begiristain is shite, needs to go.

De Bruyne is brilliant? Just a bit of blind luck or not hard to sign players for £50m.

Gabriel Jesus is signed, then explodes on the international scene 2 months later, wins the championship with Pameiras becomes Brazil's number 9 and hits the ground running with us. Does anyone fill this thread with pages of comments about how brilliant a move it was for us to get him in August for £27m, when he'd have cost 3x as much in October? Praise for getting him despite the massive interest from all the top clubs in Europe?

No that's all Pep, but if he'd been shit, then it would have been Begiristain's fault.

If you go back 80 odd pages and then 100 before that you'll see posts very similar to the one you've just posted, i always get deja vu on this thread as it's a constant merry-go-round

Its a squad with a number of fundamental defensive weaknesses that have been fairly obvious for a few years. Sure, when we win people celebrate the win, put to one side concerns over the defense. But that doesnt mean that the win changes peoples views on the state of the defense. If we win today we'll all be delighted, celebrate the win, but not many will start thinking the win means that the defenders in the squad are good enough. So, if its Txiki's job to build the squad its not really surprising that people gripe when obvious failings in the squad cost us games, but stay quiet when they don't.

Khaldoon, Begiristain and Sorriano all maintain very low public profiles. Hardly any of us have much knowledge, if any, of their personalities. I dont see how liking not liking them comes into it.

A quick search for the phrase "Barca Boys or Soriano" will provide enough evidence that not everyone is happy with the way Soriano runs the club or treats the fans.

Also you thinks it odd that people post more when their angry? I would say that's perfectly normal behaviour.

You've misread his comment. Try Again.

Possibly the difference between some of us is that and i speak for myself at least in this, I've made peace with the fact we are now undergoing a transformation and if that means we win nowt this season or possibly even next as well for the good of the long term then fine.

We have had an incredible time post takeover, first under Bob and then with Pellegrini and Pep is not only the next stage but the next level, the European elite level and its going to take time.

Signings like Sterling, Sane, Jesus are a glimpse of whats to come and im more than happy to give those at the club a little time to finish off the work thats very clearly happening right now.

Monaco was shit, Pep deserves criticism and so do the players but i honestly dont believe Txiki does because he cant be held responsible for a turgid 45 mins and a profligate 2nd half.

Just because posts were made following the Monaco game doesn't mean the views on him are based on that game.I think you can see that.

Do you blame Txiki for Bonucci and Laporte not coming in the summer?
