Txiki Begiristain

All those “why didn’t we buy a striker” knee jerks should read this from pep’s conference
this afternoon. Read it and take it in:

“He then nailed the central point of why City have been better than United - they have been working to a plan for years, with a football director and chief executive in harmony, plotting towards the moment when Guardiola would take charge. And even after the Catalan arrived, they are all on the same hymn sheet - players bought under Manuel Pellegrini have slotted effortlessly into Guardiola’s way of playing, in contrast to the haphazard, knee-jerk transfer policies that have seen the Reds lurch from one manager to another, and hence from one playing style to another.”

We. Play. The. Long. Game.

Good post tbh.

It's clear that some of the Pellegrini era signings weren't quite up to standard, but we've seen a significant improvement in the 'hit rate' over the Pep era.

On the subject of a striker, we must remember that Pep and Txiki actually wanted to sign Harry Kane. I think that both probably look back on that Levy shambles with a degree of regret.

Pep thought we needed a striker. If we'd been struggling for goals pre-January, we'd have signed someone. Fortunately, we weren't :-)

and most of the hits recently came post-FFP where the average cost of the signings has been about £60m. Great sporting directors find unpolished diamonds, Txiki has never done that - when working on a relatively moderate budget his recruitment was woeful.

If the league and/or Champions League aren’t won this season, it’s time for a reboot IMO, from the manager right up to Soriano.

Sniff sniff

Club needs to kick him out if we want to make the final step. sell/release players but not replace them. New unique concept?

It's not just him that deals with transfers, it's a team of people including Pep.

Recruitment hasn't been the best the past few seasons. The weaknesses in squad allowed to go on.
