Txiki Begiristain

For me a mixed bag as far as signings. But usually seemed to be the most sought-after player at the time.

The Mangala summer, I believe the next two best CBs on the market were Benatia and Lovren. United and Chelsea both were after Mangala. Recall seeing that Mangala turned down equivalent deal with one of those to sign with us. Benatia seems to have flopped. Lovren too, more or less.

Bony is the one that puzzles me in hindsight. We had no strikers fit at the time but Bony was at AFCON till after Aguero and Dzeko were projected to return IIRC.

Maybe they thought Bony would be better than Dzeko? Hindsight 20/20 and whatnot, but clearly he isn't.

Sort after, doesn't always equate to the best.

No it isn't. It's just the old "we aren't qualified and don't know what is going on" argument, combined with the "the Sheik and Khaldoon appointed them and who dares criticise them" argument, with a smattering of "worried that we are becoming like the rags" nonsense.
I'm with you mate,I don't expect to change some people's mind particularly on here but I am entitled to take a view without being called a 'moaner'. If nobody moaned on here it would have about 3 posters.

Hmmmm - having read my post back and chatted with a few fans here at the ticket pick up point - if I say so myself it made better points than I had realised.

Even more the case after reading your - let's call it a 'reply'

After tonight's result, maybe he's slightly less desirable than he was yesterday?

The world has actually gone fucking mad.

He's got an 82% win percentage at Bayern, the best in their history. The second best coach in their history has 62%.

He's won 6 league titles in 7 years.

He's got to the Champions League semi final 7 years on the bounce.

He built the best team in the history of football.

He actually won the game last night 2-1, creating over 30 chances.

Simeone said they are the best team he has ever faced as a player or manager.

They went out on away goals after missing a penalty and creating over 50 chances in 2 games against the best defensive side in Europe.

And you're suggesting he might be "Slightly less desirable than yesterday"!! Jesus fucking Christ, what do people want?!!

He's arguably the best coach in history already and he's forty fucking five years old! Unless he wins the treble every season he's considered a failure, it's absolutely absurd. He's judged by completely different criteria than every other manager in history.

To put it in perspective Fergurson, who is considered the greatest manager in history managed two Champions League wins in 26 years. Guardiola won 2 in his first 3 years.

Fergurson got to 7 Champions League semi finals in 26 years. Mourinho got to 7 Champions League semi finals in 14 years. Guardiola has got to 7 in 7.

If Guardiola is now "Slightly less desirable" because he didn't win the treble again this year, then who is "Slightly more desirable" than him? Show me a manager with a better record.

It's like saying Messi is slightly less desirable because he only got 70 goals last year instead of the 100 plus he got a few years back.

Guardiola is the best manager in the world by an absolute mile. We are extremely lucky to have him and the people who expect him to win every single game are living in a psychedelic dream world.

The thing about scumcafe is it seems full of sad fuckers that post stuff to make themselves feel grand - they just have a social chat forum with the football club just being the excuse to spout.

They are not really ' personal' to the club and just feel oh so enitled - and of course justified to moan when they have been 'let down'

Not saying bluemoòn or City fans are like that yet at all - but some do seem to have a head start. ...

Anyway off to Playa Sol and Mayor where City fans will be positive

P.s. all just IMO is course

P.P.s. not seen anyone name these alternative DoFs that are guaranteed to have done a much better job - apart from themselves aided and abetted with 20/20 hindsight

He haven't done a perfect job (nobody does) but he's been fine with all circumstances. First of all, people have to understand that his first job is to use his experience and contacts to negotiate and then buy and sell players. He surely has a word in what players would be bought or sold but he won't do that on his own without managers approval and probably not without word from those above as sometimes players are partly bought for marketing reasons so price depend on that etc.

Then he had FFP that absolutely affected our transfer policy and stopped us buying world class players for huge money and paying them huge wages. If we wanted to cover some holes in squad we had to buy cheaper players so the most possible number of those holes could be covered.

And on the end we absolutely lacked home grown players so he was forced to buy such. There's no really the infinite number of those players that are good enough for where City wants to be so it was always going to be miss and hit.

During all this processes, he (and not him alone) made some mistakes, overpaid for some players etc. but overpaying is always something Cit will be doing as other clubs will know we have money and will try to take as much of it from our hands as possible. Then, there is lot of competitions around, lot of money in the game and what we find as huge overpay is not really that anymore, 30-40 million is norm this day for any kind of quality or potential so we should better get used on that instead living in 20 years ago when World's best football players were bought for that money.

And he's done pretty good with selling players, I think it's where he showed the biggest quality so far. It's not easy to sell City players who are on big wages and if they are set to be sold by us they are usually seen as failures with lack of game during their City careers. So to sell Rodwells, Garcias, Johnsons for the money we did was a great job. To get rid some of high earners like Dzeko, Tevez was also good job. For fuck sake he sold Balotelli for 20 million.

So all in all, he's done fair job. Nothing spectacular as finding some gem for cheap (yet) but surely not as bad as some people who will never forget him Mancini would say. The single issue I have with him and each other having a word in that transfer was buying Bony. WTF was that?

What a brilliant, brilliant post. New age football fans with no patience or insight are getting a bit sensitive this today after their red mates gave them a bit of stick about Pep's team going out last night on away goals.
Make no mistake, after a couple of windows, we'll be a very different beast. After summer 2017' we'll be some side!

Yep, just about nailed it.
