Txiki Begiristain

So do you honestly believe that we are standing still and are not discussing potential targets to come in and make the Club the envy of Europe ?
Im an impatient person by nature so I like to see action not shadow boxing. We'll end up buying stones at the last minute for the same price as now and no preseason with us. Sane peobably the same. Get them in and get on with it.

You really aren't getting this are you?

No, the idea should be that we sell Zabaleta. He's only in his early 30's,is a wonderful professional and highly decorated at both club and international level. We should be able to receive a decent fee for him.
However, we are in a position where we have no basis to negotiate. Everybody knows we are desperate to sell due to our squad problems.
Zabaleta will either leave on a loan with us paying half his wages, on a free after us failing to shift him at all or for peanuts with us paying half his wages.

Every club knows we are desperate to move players out, so rather than selling an asset for a decent fee and removing wages of our books and avoid paying a huge loyalty bonus we'll get our pants pulled down.
See Edin Dzeko last summer. We sold him for €15 million euro, that was about £12 million. So we got £12 million for a striker in his peak with one of the PL's best goals per minute ratios ever. That's a similar fee to the likes of Clinton N Gi, Soldado, Flaurin Thauvin, Mitrovic, Paulino. Liverpool have just sold Joe Allen for £13 million.

Zab was poor last year and the wrong side of 30 his legs have gone lots of injuries thats going to be the main reason for the low fee not the need to sell

The alternative to a low fee would be to have sold him last year which would have been deemed to soon at the time or let him go for free next year or to have given him less of deal and loose him this summer on a free and have more room

Dzeko given his form here in terms of effort current form seemed a decent deal at the time now it might look small given How Bony turned out and how TV money has gone but thats a BPL thing Would people have been happy to keep Dzeko till this summer pay him all those wages have our squad even more full in the hope that we get a few million more for a past it lazy player because the insane money in the BPL

The big hitters aside, other than the usual shrewd clubs ie.Juve,Atleti,Sevilla,it has been a slow window for many clubs..Obviously things will pick as the window comes to a close so the notion that clubs know we're desperate to sell doesn't hold for me..Sure they're clubs which will be looking at some of the players we want rid either on permanent deals where we'll take a hit on their transfer fees/loans with obligations to buy etc or their agents will offer them to clubs..Most will leave i presume..And if an unwanted player doesn't want to leave he'll simply be alienated by Pep..Similar to Jan Kirchoff at Bayern.

Txiki got Pep and maybe got him on less than Bayern offered He looks to have got us a great young player a cheap midfielder and beat Barcelona to a winger and could have got us a great young goalie the next Neymar who is wanted by Barcelona

Fuck off with the talking shit claim, there's no need for it. This was Spurs squad for the 14/15 season

17 non homegrown hence in the summer of 2015 when they sold the above they were in a similar position to us.

And no I didn't use Dzeko's best season as an example of him being past his best, I said his last two seasons, his final one with us and his season with Roma just gone ( quote me stats again and I'll show you how stats prove that fucking Bony had a better season than him ), I'll await your apology.

You can't use the season after he left as a reason as to why we milked him away.
Fact remains, we milked him away one season after his best for us. Why? Becuase we were desperate. Yours or my opinion is irrelevant, you know and I know why we sold him so cheap. It's because we were desperate to shift him.

I've given you the foreign trained players that were in their squad last season. You've given me ones for the start of the season before that including Brad Friedel and Adebayor to name two. So that's 15, Paulino was sold to China before our window opened. So that's down to 14 before the window even opened.

So, apologies for saying you were talking shite, you were just quoting dated figures.

Spurs had places to play with, many of their key players were HG, they weren't in the CL. Their deadwood was largely young or youngish. They got decent fees for Capoue, Stambouli, Kaboul & Chirches.

Their squad was balanced. It's where we should be aiming but with a better caliber of player.

Even if you were correct, you are suggesting that Levy is much better than Txiki at negotiating, so Txiki deserves questioning for that.

I literally can't believe that anyone thinks trying to sell players when you have too many in your squad, 7 in their last year of a contract is not worthy of questioning.

I didn't use that as a reason, I said he was past his best and has gone on to prove that.

The summer they sold Soldado they had 17 non homegrown in their squad. That's what's relevant in this discussion.

I never said it wasn't worthy of discussion, I don't know where you're getting that from, I am after all discussing it with you.

You just don't get it. Why are we stuck with a player that has no resale value? It's not just one either. It's the 7 out of contact within 12 months and Kolarov. Arguably Bony too.

Why are they practically worthless?

Because everybody knows we need to shift players.

Why? Because our squad is over full and everyone knows we're trying to sign more.

I'm ambivalent towards Txiki - I don't think he's done anything more or above what any other DoF would have done given the same incredible owners and financial backing; the one exception (and yes "what have the Romans ever done for us") being securing the services of Pep - for which he was ideally positioned anyway.
I'm not saying he's not competent but I certainly don't get the genuflection and prostration that goes on on here about him; indeed the people I know who have had, albeit brief, dealings with him have mixed impression ranging form being underwhelmed to thinking he's unrealistic and a bit arrogant and rude - none of which, I realise, affect his ability to do deals - but I was expecting effusive admiration given his deification.
It's still far too early to judge this window so let's hope he can give Pep a squad that he can be competitive on the 2 major fronts this season; but we as fans also need to temper our expectations given the handcuffs of long term contracts that some of our players are holding over us - and accept it will probably require 3 windows for Txiki to fully revamp the squad.
Although I'm no flag waver of him - I wish him every success with this vital job.
