Uber London loses licence to operate

Fair play to you, but nobody seems to understand the real implications.

A sticker on a door doesn't mean Jack at the end of the day, and as I have asked, is there a case where someone has been seriously injured left without compensation?

Probably not, but that's just my take on things.

Never use uber and never will, use the gett app for black cabs.

Manchester private hires with the yellow sticker only too, and when I order a private hire if a rossendale plated driver turns up I send it away, but I do always tell the firm first when I order I won't accept a rossendale plated driver.

I ordered a taxi from a Cheadle private hire firm from the airport and a Rossendale plated taxi turned up. What's the story behind that?

It would seem that Rossendale have been handing out taxi licenses like confetti leading to complaints that they aren't checking the drivers out throughly and other local authorities then making complaints to Rossendale.

I used Uber sparingly for maybe six months before deleting the app. Every other journey I had experienced complications. The driver would not know where they’re going despite using satnav or they would drive like an idiot. They often had problems getting to my house. The straw that broke the camel’s back was four consecutive drivers accepting then cancelling my fair because it clearly wasn’t high enough during peak times.

Uber is a nice idea and has some benefits; but they are so cheap for a reason.

Looks as though Sadiq is heading for a bit of bovver! 90% of Uber drivers are from ethnic minority background and TfL have some measure of responsibility within their opps that is meant to cater for Ems so they have a living - or some such stuff!

It's a rapidly growing petition. Fastest ever.
How is this the most upsetting thing ever? People are more pissed off about this than Brexit. Doesn't make sense.
Of course it makes sense: It affects people almost immediately.
We don't yet know the result of Brexit because the nation chose to vote for a future without knowing what was entailed. Stopping Uber hits very quickly and users know (or assume they know) the consequences of TFL's decision.

I am inclined towards Uber winning their appeal by promising to increase checks or safety or whatever.

I myself will never use them again. I use a local cab firm when I need one and the service is acceptable.

I don't really understand the difference between uber and just ringing for a 'regular' taxi - can someone explain?

Fast, the drivers I've had have never been shitbags, cheap as fuck, trackable (none of this 'he's just turning into your street now' shit), cashless and every time I've used one the drivers have been nothing short of excellent. Also I'd rather not give my money to local firms in Salford who have on the odd occasion been known to just be a way of laundering money for criminals.
