Uber London loses licence to operate

Never had a bad experience with uber and they are so convient. But if the drivers are getting a bad deal then im all for them getting paid more, but i think this is about something else.

It would seem that Rossendale have been handing out taxi licenses like confetti leading to complaints that they aren't checking the drivers out throughly and other local authorities then making complaints to Rossendale.

All drivers within Rossendale are subject to the same stringent checks including the DBS process.
As for the confetti scenario it was seen as easier to obtain a badge from our borough with licences issued to applicants based countrywide not just Manchester.

The council were aware of the legality of a system that allowed Hackneys to trade outside the borough as private hire and consequently I guess made a lot of money in the process. The implementation of the intended use policy should rectify the issue.

I am inclined towards Uber winning their appeal by promising to increase checks or safety or whatever.
I myself will never use them again. I use a local cab firm when I need one and the service is acceptable.

I think most would settle for a local area knowledge test.
But hey lets not ruin a good thing ...apparently they are quick cheap as fook and the drivers are not shit bags and they don't launder money or involve themselves in any criminality.

What is that Mayor of Landen thinking ? I'm in.

Section 11 of The Deregulation Act 2015 has rectified the issue, mate.

Im amazed at this decision, the Mayors days are numbered

Ive been using Uber for about 2 years now, never had a problem, in fact a lot of the drivers are very interesting people

Its great to see exactly how long the cab is gonna be and tracking it instead of just waiting, also great that no money changes hands, the cars are a lot nicer also.

Exactly my experience!

Cab businesses have to be some of the worse for customer service I have ever come across but Uber has always been spot on

Just had a quick read of section 11 but it's way over my head.
Glad we implemented the intended use policy.
It legalised sub-contracting of jobs from a private hire operator to other operators in other districts. It's why Birmingham is now full of Wolverhampton plated private hire cars, rather than hackneys from Rossendale and Gedling.

Thanks for that.
What a total mare it must be for the Jo public to have to decipher the intriqacies of licencing law before undertaking their big night out.

Technology has moved on and taxi drivers don't need the knowledge, what punters want is a cheap, reliable safe service, in my experience only uber provides that.

Quick as fuck, cheap, no messing about with cash.

My local cabbie in has pretty much all of the same features. I can book a cab on an app and use a card to pay for it, track where the car is, see who the driver is etc. I can choose to pay by card in the cab if I want instead or just pay with cash. I downloaded the Uber app to see how it compared and there was far less taxis meaning longer waits and the fees were about £2-3 more on a £12 journey.
