This all kicked off with 4 articles in Der Spiegel in 2018, however the week before this article appeared about the Secret Seven and was Der Spiegel's first article on Football Leaks. Very little coverage has been given to this article in the UK, other than threat of a European Breakaway Superleague. It is very long, the implications dramatic and surprising how close it is to happening.

Key points are:

- They want to set up a 16 team European Super League with 11 founding members guaranteed membership for 20 years with 5 other transient clubs, changing every 4 years.
- It will be a normal league with a play off knock out to determine the eventual winners
- The Secret Seven behind it are: Arsenal, United, Real, Barca, Bayern, Milan & Juventus
- The other 4 founders were to be: Chelsea, PSG, City & Liverpool.
- The 5 others initially were: Athletico Madrid, Dortmund, Inter Milan, Marseille and Roma.
- Each club will earn €500m from TV rights each season, making it a no brainer to join.
- Games will be played midweek and at weekends necessitating the clubs to resign from their domestic leagues and UEFA.
- The limited company was set up in Spain with major shareholders Real Madrid 18.77%, Barcelona 17.61%, Manchester United 12.58% & Bayern Munich 8.29%. These 4 clubs would own 57.25%. The shares held by the other 3 of the Secret Seven are not disclosed, but is likely to take ownership to over 75%.

- Rummenigge is slated for being totally duplicitous in his public statements compared to his private actions, leading other clubs up the garden path with his lies.

What we don't know is:

- whether it was signed in the end by all the 11?
- what impact Coronavirus will have on this plan?

However, we know that many of the Secret Seven have been active in piling the pressure on City over the FFP situation, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a link between the two. For example, I find it hard to beleive City would join as anything less than an equal shareholder, and if City didn't sign, being banned from Europe would surely coerce them into subsequently signing. After all €500m is a big wedge.

To my mind this is more damning than City's FFP case because it rips up the fabric of football forever. We know the G14 threatened this 20 years ago, and it has never gone away. Perhaps this time it is going ahead?

Well that would certainly make the German, French, Spanish, Italian and possibly English Premier Leagues a whole lot more interesting.

I got annoyed after reading just the first line, Quote "11 founding members guaranteed membership for 20 years". This was the reason ffp was set up in the first place to make sure that the top clubs made it difficult for other clubs to break into the CL.
Now its even worse, they want to guarantee participation in the super league no matter how crap they are.
