UK far right trouble July/August 24

Another thread that sadly needs locking.

This is a live prosecution and we all tread a fine line between comment and contempt.

The likes of Jenrick and Farage know this too-but are delighted to seize an opportunity to enrage their base.

The tedious attempts to justify violence and thuggery when all it was was racism and ignorance.

The tedious attempts that somehow its a 'cover up' and something to do with the budget. Utter nonsense.

This is a highly complex, and yes emotive, case that relies on evidence not conjecture and speculation.

The best thing is for all concerned to wait until the verdict when all available information is in the public domain.

As I mentioned on another thread earlier today, it does not seem beyond the realms of possibility for someone to attempt to make use of the methods described in terrorist manuals without them necessarily subscribing to that particular terrorist ideology.

For example, I might mine something like, say, The Anarchist Cookbook or The Management of Savagery for hints and tips on how to perpetrate acts of terror without myself being either an anarchist or a Salafi-Jihadist.

With this offender, we simply don’t know what went on.

He may very well be a self-radicalised Lone Wolf jihadist. But that isn’t 100% certain. He may also possibly be schizophrenic, or in thrall to some other form of psychological or ideological derangement.

In which case, it is premature to assume that the discovery of an al-Qaeda manual vindicates the initial assumptions that were made on social media about the faith of the perpetrator of the Southport atrocity.

Plus, none of this in any way justifies what subsequently took place, namely, the besieging of a mosque and a hotel housing asylum seekers (if I remember rightly) putting those inside in fear for their lives.

Checked on X a few minutes ago and the odious Laurence Fox was once again caricaturing Islam as a ‘death cult’.

Away from this board I maintain a blog for students of A level Religious Studies.

Am going to get a shot of Fox’s tweet and, if I can find the time, will dedicate a future blog entry to the comprehensive evisceration of that ludicrous claim.
Fucking cloud cuckoo land if he you don't think he's been influenced by Jihadist Terror groups especially now the Al Qaeda manual has come to light, I could t be arsed to read the rest of the shite you posted after the first paragraphs.

Participating in speculation in public is not free speech if it may infringe upon potential criminal proceedings or a trial. If anything this kind of speculation is nothing more than mob rule or a lynch mob.

Tommy Robinson has been doing this for years. He has stood outside courts claiming to be a journalist documenting 'certain' people's trials publicly. But he spouts lies about those people to further a prejudice message to his base. He has obviously gone further to say things elsewhere on other things but that 'free speech' is not why he is in prison today.

Tommy Robinson is in prison because he tries to claim that he is a journalist but journalists can only report information, they cannot pass judgement. Passing judgement or commenting publicly on a case is contempt as it could prejudice a trial. If the person on trial is found not guilty then talking of that person as guilty is libel which he has also lost a case on AND then he made a documentary repeating the libel!

To say that this is about protecting free speech is just utterly ridiculous because it's not is it? It's about protecting the right to be racist and openly attack people on trial or otherwise because of their skin colour, religion or background. We value free speech in the UK but I'm sorry we must also value law and order.

Well let's hope they criminalise all the people who released information about the attacker before the trial then and not just the information they didn't like. We'd have Merseyside Police, half the national newspapers, the BBC ("it's understood he had autism") and most political commentators in prison. Most of our prison places would be taken up for speech crimes. Not sure that's the way forward though.

Not sure how you've missed this because I thought you were a copper? The police have been locking people up left, right and centre for claiming the attack was done by Ali Al Shakati. It's not because they've got his name wrong is it and defamed anyone, it's because of the implication he's an Islamic extremist, which has a strong possibility of being true.

Also, many other examples of ridiculous prosecutions/persecutions below in an excerpt of an article I linked below:

The Prime Minister’s recent clamp down on free speech is deeply worrying. Since the beginning of August, we’ve witnessed the greatest assault on free speech in this country since Oliver Cromwell passed a law banning all theatrical performances in 1642.

In the wake of the civil unrest that spread across the UK following the murder of three children in Southport, Sir Keir Starmer has blamed ‘misinformation’ and ‘disinformation’ on social media for whipping up violence and urged the authorities to prosecute people for saying supposedly inflammatory things online.

As a result, a man who has been sent to jail for 18 months for sharing something “offensive” that someone else said on Facebook, another man was sent down for three years for posting “anti-Establishment rhetoric” and a third man was jailed for 18 months for chanting “Who the f*** is Allah?”.

Stephen Parkinson, the Director of Public Prosecutions, has even warned that people sharing footage of the riots online may be prosecuted. “People might think they’re not doing anything harmful, they are, and the consequences will be visited upon them,” he said.

This threatening language is more reminiscent of a tin-pot dictatorship than the birthplace of parliamentary democracy and it has unleashed a wave of terror across the country, with hundreds of thousands of people now worried that they may be sent to prison for posting something un-PC online.

This has to stop.

We need to remind the Prime Minister, a former human rights lawyer, that free speech is the most important human right of all because without it we wouldn’t be able to defend any of the others.

Hope this is why you joined the force mate

That article is from the FSU so I would not be giving it or them much creedence if I was you. Despite it's name the FSU is simply an astroturfing front for very right wing idealogues including it's founder, a man who regularly has to publicly apologise for his lying, misinformation, poor judgement and just being crap at stuff.

If it's output appeals to you at a political or cultural level then, though I might disagree with you, that's fair enough that's your business; but I don't think it's wise to suggest it's a meaningful promoter of free speech and democratic values because it makes you look either disingenuous or ill informed.

Can I just have it on record given this rather chilling post that nobody is condoning people targeting mosques or churches? I did respond to that insidious suggestion previously but it appears to be removed but with this warning from the resident police officer on here, I think that needs to be emphasised.

Never thought I'd have to write that but this is Britain in 2024 and I don't want the police at my house.

It wasn’t an Al Qaeda manual. It was a US government document about Al Qaeda.

You’ve spent the last few pages making excuses for them. Not sure it’s that different to condoning them.
