If you knew everyone you were ok.40 years ago It wasn't advisable to walk round those places you mention at night, absolute no go areas for those that didn't live there and amongst the highest crime rates in the North West, especially Moss Side. Think time had played a trick on your memory.

I was born in 1962, and spent my first 20 years in Moss Side (Claremont Rd) up until 1973, when we then moved to Longsight (Birch Hall Lane) until 1982. I never had any issues in that era.40 years ago It wasn't advisable to walk round those places you mention at night, absolute no go areas for those that didn't live there and amongst the highest crime rates in the North West, especially Moss Side. 40 years ago, Maine Road was in Moss Side and I walked there quite regularly for night matches. Never had a sniff of trouble. Maybe because I was big and hard, but I doubt it.
