UK government to block Scottish gender bill - first time a devolved government has been blocked from passing a law.

It was a genuine question, the first part in particular. Seen one or two make that claim, and while I am not arguing it, I honestly want to know how people think that one or the other in particular were targeted for said reason, of deliberately antagonising constitutional differences.
I'm not saying the legislation is without merit - maybe we should do the same south of the border. I do think that sturgeon is more concerned with nudging indy ref voting dynamics in her favour (voting age) rather than being suddenly struck with a desire to empower 16 year olds. The trans thing too is a bit of a random fight to pick unless it's with the express intent of trolling English gammon and baiting our rw govt. If it is, good effort but otherwise the sudden concern for the trans thing is a bit cynical.

Fair enough, if you think so. Maybe, who knows. However the push for 16 year olds to vote has been in action at government level since 2012 at least. Don't know how long the trans one has been in the pipeline but it too goes back some time. So if at all true, that is some hell of a long game, to wum this particular Tory government. No doubt though both will have the angle of attracting votes to their cause though, from any demohraphic they think they can reach.

Either way the headline here is tory government interferes with devolved parliament, it takes some level of cynicism to turn that into vile jimmy finds way to goad Westminster into a power trip.

Scottish law is very different to English across many issues. Voting for one is 16 in Scotland 18 in England. Having different rights between England and Scotland is no issue, as different laws between N.Ireland England and Scotland is also no issue .Except for those that want it to be. This as far as I can see in fairly small scale.

Voting in Scotland is the same as rest of UK for UK wide elections. Only for Scottish elections is it able to be different.

Why? They are at the end of the day 4 separate countries. As such it is natural they can all have different laws, whether that is smoking, drinking, driving, marrying, identifying as a gender or whatever. There will be plenty examples, like gay marriage for example didnt reach all at the same time.

It boils down to if legislation is isolated to Scotland only and, if not, the ramifications for that legislation in the wider context of the UK. Drinking, smoking and the such is geographically isolated to where you do it. Under 18s who cross the border into Scotland to get married, won’t be legally recognised as married in rest of UK. No more than a trans would be recognised as their new gender by the UK for things like passports or a pension. I guess they’d have to get a certificate in Scotland and one in UK if they want their passport to reflect how they identify.

This is from the Stonewall website....

Gender dysphoria

Used to describe when a person experiences discomfort or distress because there is a mismatch between their sex assigned at birth and their gender identity.

This is also the clinical diagnosis for someone who doesn’t feel comfortable with the sex they were assigned at birth.

Cisgender or Cis

Someone whose gender identity is the same as the sex they were assigned at birth. Non-trans is also used by some people.
........................

What you see here is the central position of gender identity, around which everything else orbits. Trans activists believe we all have a gender identity, you, me, everyone, and it is our gender identity that defines us. For some our gender identity matches our "sex assigned at birth", we are cisgender. For those whose gender identity does not match their "sex assigned at birth", they can be any one of a multitude of various genders or even "gender fluid". But wherever folk lie on this spectrum, that is who they are. Hence the drive to get rid of procedures and medical professionals and replace them with self ID, because Self ID is simply an affirmation of ones true self.

If you believe all this, then your sex, your biological sex, is immaterial, hence the rallying cry "Trans Women Are Women! Trans men are men!" And this is the new reality because it is ones gender identity that defines you, over and above all else.

So if you're born in a male body, but your gender identity is that of a woman (whatever that is), then that makes you a woman, hence trans women are women. And if you're born in a female body, but your gender identity is that of a man (again, whatever that is), then that makes you a man, hence trans men are men.
I have yet to hear one example of what being a women trapped in a man's body actually feels like.

What does feeling like a woman mean?

There was a thread about this that was binned for reasons unknown, so any attempt to address this question here would probably lead to the same fate, not least because it lies outside the remit of the OP.

Besides, I'm not the best person to ask. Perhaps you might direct this question to those who peddle this stuff, they're not hard to find in here. Though peddle is probably the wrong word, as they don't engage in a rational way with anyone not already captured. On the rare occasion they do respond to sceptics, it's usually in a flurry of self reinforcing posts, questioning the motives of the questioner rather than addressing the question itself. If you do succeed in getting anything other than insults, it'll still make little or no sense, as they don't feel obliged to anchor their belief in anything as mundane as facts, or logic, or material reality.

Condemnation and appeals to emotion are what you'll get. They use this tactic as they're surprisingly reluctant, or simply incapable, of getting into specifics on this issue. Their preferred modus operandi is to accuse anyone who disagrees with them of being stupid, a bigot, or both. If you persist in asking questions, be prepared for the personal insults that'll come your way. You'll be accused of hating trans people and called pathetic and sad for hounding one of the "most disadvantaged groups in society, with an appallingly high suicide rate!" There'll be references to how only the obsessed would bother themselves with such a niche issue, a minuscule issue, utterly insignificant given the daily problems we face. They'll call you a right wing shill peddling culture war bullshit, an obsessed old fart with an unhealthy interest in toilets and men dressed in knickers and so on and so forth.

Good luck.
