I watched UKIP's party election broadcast last week.

I'm not sure they did themselves any favours there. I think they must have commisioned Alf Garnett to write the script for them.

Presumably that was their intention though.

I was driving up to Leeds yesterday and was switching between the BBC and independent radio. One thing I noticed was the difference in reporting about this story.

In one news outlet, the headline to this piece was "UKIP accuse Conservatives of dirty tricks" or something similar. In the other, it was "Conservatives dismiss UKIP allegations of dirty tricks". The 'slant' in one was very much that UKIP's complaint had some substance to it, in the other that it was basically paranoia and could be safely ignored.

I always think it is interesting the way that news items are presented in a supposedly neutral fashion often still betrays the political bias of the organisation or of those working within it. The power of the media to manipulate the thoughts of people is truly frightening.

I think a lot of voters have cottoned on to their message that being out of the EU doesn't mean we can't trade with Europe, and will save the British taxpayer billions and billions of pounds. They constantly hammer this home and it's difficult to find a valid counter argument.

I used to think the threat from the far right was just a load of bollox. They had too many nutters that would be hard pushed to remember which way round to sit on the bog, let alone organise a political threat!!

I've got to say though, this show of shit UKIP do worry me a little. They seem to have fooled many of the Daily Mail readers into thinking they are just the Tories with a new name.
