We might as well wait for Xmas in June because that is never going to happen, and waiting for it to happen isn't an option. Get out of Europe and let's have a points based system and stop this nonsense.
A poster mentioned that about 10% of our new laws have the smell of the EU on them, well that's 10% too much and that's another reason why we need to come out.
Who voted for a federal Europe with a European military anyway?

I would vote for a properly federal Europe with a European military if handled right :)

But I'm one of those really hardcore internationalists who wants a One World Government so anything that leans in that direction I tend to focus on.

But there would at least be a referendum on that if you had the chance.
So that would be democratic.

ahhhh....democracy

having a say and all that

goes against all EU principles it seems

A referendum is not democratic.

There is no room for co-operative consensus. There is no room for debate in anything other than black or white, heads or tails terms and there is no room for alternative solutions to be presented and adopted. All democratic process is blocked in favour of presenting an immutable choice of two extremes held only by small minorities of the voting population.

It offers a few insiders the opportunity to by pass the democratic and define the question in their own extreme terms. Completely undemocratic.

The referendum is the last refuge of the political scoundrel.

Surprising statistic I just read on the factcheck website of the bbc.

"Worth saying Norway and Switzerland, both non-EU members, have more EU migrants per 1000 of its population than the UK "

Those countries are not EU members but they are a part of the EEA which means anyone from the EU can go and work/live there. I think they give you 6 months to find work before kicking you out unless you are a millionaire of course!

A beautifully scripted admission that indicates you love the EU, and so should everybody else.

@Damocles

I'd imagine the proportion of women in programming jobs is very similar to the proportion of women that are qualified in programming jobs, which is at it should be. I really don't think it's fair to discriminate against men who've worked hard to get their programming qualification in order to add some more women who haven't to address the balance.

I agree that it's a problem though, so I think alternative solutions should be found. Keeping programming as an example, it should be taught far more in schools. Get girls interested in primary school and they may just keep the subject/hobby up until they're making degree choices.

@Steve

I'm pretty young (23), so maybe I'm a little naive. I just think the dinosaurs are in a minority and certainly in a professional environment. You can laugh at a sexist joke at home but still employ women at work.

@Oscar

Again, I may be being naive. I don't think UKIP's rise is due to tons of racists coming out from behind the curtains - it's because a lot of their policies have a common sense element and because a lot of people don't like being dictated to from unelected leaders in Brussels.

@Rascal

I'd argue that the rise of the internet has done much more for getting rid of inequalities. We now get access to worldwide news instantly, can talk about issues with multiple people all over the world in a conversational manner and there's a lot of people sharing their thoughts on issues that are important to them. That's given people a much broader understanding of different cultures.

There are alot of racists who support UKIP though, all you have to do is go on the UKIP facebook pages or the Daily Mails comments section to see it.

And only 9-12% of British law's have an origin from the E.U.

The Daily Mail is perhaps the most anti UKIP paper of all and comments are moderated before publishing on the vast majority of all their articles. In short it is not remotely viable as a source of evidence for anything.

Far better to a local UKIP meeting and see and hear for yourself. If your only previous sources of.information were taken from the mainstream press, I think you'd be surprised.

I think some UKIP policies are pretty sensible, especially their NHS ones

They are certainly a more creditable right wing alternative than the Tories.

Not that that says much.
