ULEZ Letter

Strange reply, mate. Who’s the ‘slapped arse’ as I see Valent as a none political party who specialise in getting the truth out there.
I've no idea about them really, but it just seems that any election result is blamed on some interference nowadays. I think the Uxbridge one was actually something of a coup for labour in a seat where you could more or less stick a blue rosette on a piece of fruit and it would win. Starmer himself said it was ulez that stopped them turning a narrow loss into a win and I think that is true. Not because of internet shenanigans, but because the locals are pretty fucked off with the way it's been brought in and what's seen as a 'fuck off' from the mayor to their concerns. I don't live there now, but in my unrepresentative sample of ex colleagues/ acquaintances that do, they nearly all think ulez is about cash, and khan is a bit of a twat. By no means a scientific survey, but I dont think this is because of internet interference in the election.

Yes, fair enough. I realise the road infra will still need paying for. What we actually spend on roads though is a fraction of the tax take from motorists. The ammount we pay at the fuel pumps alone is pretty much the same as what the public purse puts into (privatised) railways each year. Not sure how that works really.
Yes, not saying it's for roads, as they don't deal with tax like that, but if everyone went electric now, there would be a huge hole in tax receipts that would need to be filled somehow

but again the poorest will be hit, if you can afford a big fuck off land drover for dropping the kids off paying by the mile wont be an issue, I wonder how long it will take EVs to become the thing everyone hates, pollution from its tyres, the mining of of the compnenets damaging the environment in the sea etc. To me this is like the smoking issue, why not out right ban cigarettes, they are known to kill people, cause cancers etc, just ban the fuckers, but the tax they collect is huge, how anyone can afford to smoke is beyond me anyway.
It would be fairly easy to work out the cost per mile for a particular vehicle - you've got a petrol focus, it costs you 1p in fuel duty per mile therefore the cost for road user charging would be the same. Problem is, unless they have rates for lots of different vehicles, potentially based on list price as BIK is, a flat cost per mile therefore disproportionately hits those with cheaper and therefore usually smaller cars. Could work for new cars but not sure there would be much of a market for a used Mercedes EV.

Right, but in probably the worst cost of living crisis I can remember I suspect that dumping a car that doesn't comply for a brand new one wouldn't be top of most families' priorities.
When the GM CAZ was being brought in, it was pre-Covid. I'm not sure even Boris would blame Burnham for COVID, QE, Ukraine and Liz Truss.

And it doesn't need to be a new car, it needs to be a compliant one. The one in GM wouldn't have required any private car to be changed. Even in London, our 11 year old petrol would be exempt, so it won't affect most and for those it does, they can probably sell an old diesel outside London and buy a similarly priced petrol

It's there in black and white from one of his biggest fans. There is official documentation confirming all of it from beginning up to where we are now. The bloke is a charlatan. This is but one of his many cock ups that he accepts no responsibility for, and we're not talking just about his time as Metro Mayor, stretching back to him being a cabinet member and minister of state for health.

Blokes a wrong'n, and every bit as slippery as Boris used to be !
If I put you in a room with a pot of paint and a paintbrush and tell you to paint the room in an hour, I haven't told you to use the paintbrush. If you ask can you use a roller or a sponge and I say no, not what I want, I still haven't told you to use the paintbrush.

So is it your fault if you give up and use the paintbrush?

Obfuscation. Exactly as the faithful defended Boris.

It's there, he admitted as I stated, his fanzine wrote the report as sympathetically as it could. All of the official documentation proves it, but no, that can't be right coz he wears a red rosette.

You can lead a horse to water......

You are missing the point in blind hatred of Burnham. I think he's a shameless self-promoter, who spends too much time traveling the world rather than fixing things here that have been under his control all along, like the trams.

I was trying to describe it in another way. You are correct in that the government did not tell GM (it's not a Mayoral decision anyway, it's all the authorities) that we had to bring in a chargeable CAZ. They did tell us that we needed to improve air quality to a specific level by a fixed date and none of the modelling showed it could be achieved without effectively banning the most polluting vehicles.

And whilst the order came down from central government, it was actually due to a requirement on the government that they just pushed down to various local authorities, including GM.

Personal vehicle used for business purposes.
I use it go to burgling.
Not managed to steal a dictionary I see.
Mr Didsbury will not be impressed, he is a bit of a stickler for grammar and correct spelling.
No like from him this afternoon I am afraid

Which word is spelt incorrectly?
Nobody said you had spelt incorrectly .
You do jump to conclusions
Grammatically you do not use your van to go to burgling, burgling is not a place.
You’re using your van, a noun to do an activity, burgling, an adjective, so it’s not…..”to go to”,but “to do”.
I have been pulled up myself for less so it’s important to maintain standards.

He was never asked to "paint a room with no brushes in one hour". He was asked to provide estimates ranging from a square foot, through a single wall, etc, right through to a full room if there was need.

It should never have been a full room because two of the boroughs never met the criteria in the first place. For this job, he would require consultation with the inhabitants of the room, and he would be provided with lots of taxpayer funding.

He deliberately chose to paint the whole room including the ceiling, and shag pile carpeting the floors with virtually zero consultation, and no sign off.....

This grand socialist deliberately chose to put pressure on the lower paid, people on fixed incomes, and many small to medium companies. You can hardly blame the government for his, and TfGM choices in choosing to fleece a large part of the population.

Even the feckless government slapped him down, and suggested that he reduce his grand plan by around 90%. Do you think they did that for votes in a traditionally hard labour area, where they had next to zero chance of gaining anything ?

Lol. I'm actually embarrassed for you.

It's the Tory way.

It's the Tory way.
Of course I'm a Tory because you say. If you read through though you will find that both the government, and Boris have both been derided. But that doesn't suit your narrow mind though does it. Anyone who dares to criticise Labour representatives socialist credentials is automatically a Tory hey ?

You may want to apply that to the poster who originally used the "paint the room" issue to obfuscate the debate !

I am pleased to report your sense of humour bypass was a complete success Mr Chippy. We can now work on your empathy removal operation.
