It's still a pretty big difference between

20M
and
20M/year

It might be that the drop is spread over the rest of the contract, rather than a stepchange. TBH, I don't care that much about 20M, they can keep it if they miss the CL again!

Yep. They'd only spend it on the agents fee for a championship player anyway.

I'm actually thinking they might buy that lad Wilson back for £100m or so, after all he was way better than Rashford at their world famous yoot academy.

It's just not going to get old, is it?!

Also if they could sign some Argentinian star and burn 1/4 of his value off in a year, that would be nice.

There's two strands to this Shrek thing. Firstly it shows that his priority is not recovering from his injury and getting back to his best. Secondly he was still on England duty wearing an England shirt. It wouldn't be a problem if had just had a couple of drinks. You can tell from the pictures it clearly went beyond that, a line had been crossed and he was totally wasted.

There was a procession of Rags queuing up to defend him on Talkshite and 5live. I wonder how they would feel if he was getting plastered with a United tracksuit on in between two of their games?

They wouldn't know any different - 90% of them only go to take photographs of the ground and wouldn't recognise who he was .

Tbf, he's shit and they've got "the next Ronaldo" marks I-VII waiting in the wings. Plus, there's no value in the market.

Ah where is the Glaswegian Pisspot when you are looking for a soundbite ? ( probably too pissed to speak these days )

Shreks PR team working overtime today. All his favourite journos have been whipped into line spouting their prepared pieces to 5live/talkshite etc.

I do wonder if we have any truly independent football jurnolists anymore.

You really mean that ?

Pretty sure that's not what the rags are saying.they are saying £20 m drop spread out over 10 year deal so about £4m next year and £2m the following 9 years

The way it is worded on the BBC website is that the £750m sponsorship would be subject to a 30% reduction if the rags missed 2 consecutive CL spots which works out at £225 over the 10 years or £22.5m pa on a straight pro-rata. I don't know what happens if they gain a CL spot in the 3rd year but I suspect it wont go straight back up again. Anyway, if they miss it this year, it will cost them £22.5m but maybe its backdated to last year when the deal commenced - absolute fun if it did.

It would cost them roughly £28m per annum over the remaining life of the deal from year 3 onwards. Around 40m for not making the CL each year as well so 80m extra as a bonus giggle. Then you have to factor in wage increases as they try to sweeten the deal for transfer targets to make up for the lack of European football :) could be anything up to half a billion in total costs.

The story in the mirror says £4m this year and £2m the remaining 8 years .
I wish you were right mate

CONFIRMATION ;

Manchester United will lose more than £20m in sponsorship income from Adidas if they fail to qualify for next year's Champions League.

The German sportswear giant is in the second season of a 10-year, £750m deal.

After announcing a fall in first-quarter revenue, United said the annual payment will reduce by 30% if they do not reach Europe's flagship competition for a second successive season.

United are sixth in the Premier League, six points off the top four.

"There is a clause in the Adidas contract that applies if we are missing from the Champions League for two years in a row," said United's chief financial officer Cliff Baty.

"An example would be if we [were due to receive] £70m [in a given year], we would not receive £21m."

The sum is taken off each year of the contract, with the first payment covering the years for which the deal - which came into force in 2015 - has been active.

Baty said a failure by United to get out of the Europa League group stage this season would cost the club "single digit millions".

United's failure to qualify for this season's Champions League has already had an impact on their 2016-17 finances.

First-quarter revenue - to 30 September - was down £3.4m (2.8%) to £120.2m, with matchday income down 32.3% to £16.8m. Profit was £6.2m.

The reduction in income is largely down to United playing three fewer home games than in the same period in 2015.

Debt has risen 18% to £337.7m, due to the fall in the pound against the dollar since the Brexit vote.

Executive director Ed Woodward said: "Our financial results for this quarter reflect the impact of our non-participation in the Uefa Champions League."

The club's commercial revenue rose 4.4% to £74.3m, with overall revenue for the year expected to be between £530m and £540m.

United made four signings in the summer transfer window, including France midfielder Paul Pogba for a world record £89m and Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

They are sixth in the Premier League and through to the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup but outside the qualification places for the knockout phase of the Europa League with two games remaining.

Rooneys done nothing wrong, he hasn't broke any laws or hurt anyone and if he wants to be pissed out of his head at 5am in the morning that's entirely up to him

But what it shows yet again, is that he's finished as a top footballer. At 31 he cannot be doing shit like that and expect it not to affect his performances. It also shows that he probably doesn't care about his career as he once did. So physically and mentally he's going downhill rapidly
Press slag him off, turns to drink, press slag him off ...and repeat lol.

It seems to be the difference between 21M in one chunk, or 21M over the remainder of the contract. Presumably missing the CL again would incur another 21M for every additional year.

The CFO seems a reputable source for this!
