Tbh his general play is wank even against lesser teams. Hes the definition of a guy who benefits from the modern obsession with goal and assist stats. Im convinced people read in the media thats hes carried united to the top 4 and repeat it ad nauseum. Var carried them to the top four. Most of the people who rate him probably don't even watch him play and just count up his stats.
Thst record against top teams is shockingly shit though.

I posted in the United thread that he lacks that special something that the very best have which means he can't do it against good teams that are organised at the back.
He's just ruthlessly efficient against everyone else. He gets the absolute maximum out of himself up to his level but not a single iota at anything above it.

There was a player at the swamp, Sheringham who played till he was 40...What I wouldn't give for 3 more years of Fern. I always feel more reassured when he's on the pitch.

Just watched the game again and wanted to share some analysis with you.
When Fernandinho fouls Fernandez (around 20 min) you see him turn around see that it is Fernandinho and beg for a card.
Fernandez knows if Fernandinho gets booked there he can play off him all game knowing he cannot touch him again, letting him run the game.
When no booking arrives Fernandez goes missing big time
