United (A) - League Cup SF | Post-Match Thread

My rag mates were surprised when I said I was glad to see them go on a bit of a run recently, until I told them it'll take the pressure off OGS for a while and stop them getting a decent manager in.

Like you say, they've had a few things go their way recently (well, mainly penalties) but that's just papered over the cracks. They didn't lay a glove on us.

It made me laugh before the game hearing Neville say he thought Pogba "might be able to get in the game" as if he was some kid from the academy and not the most expensive player in the world.

Fernandes isn't half the player people are claiming he is and if the penalties ever dry up, the drop off will be huge.
Bold bit is spot on. If and when the penalties dry up he will be exposed. He's lucky that fans judge by goal and assist stats rather than watching the game as his general play is awful.

I can't believe the deluded cunts think it was an even game which they lost thanks to two set pieces ha. That seems to be the general consensus amongst them, clueless.

Garry Neville counts as chances Maguire's header and that ... challenge far post between Oleks and Martial. I'm not joking...
Yes - and "Bruno" had two "genuine" attempts on goal; the first, a genuine attempt, which Steffen saved well and the second, a desperate punt from 30 yards, straight at the 'keeper which just about reached him. Oh, and the third "shot" again from way out, which cleared the bar with about 20 feet to spare! I think the whole game showed that United might have made progress over the last year but up front they don't have the variety needed to trouble a class team and at the back they look dangerously vulnerable to good delivery from set pieces. This is something Southampton showed a few weeks ago, but they also played the high line that allows the rags to use their only real weapon, pace on the break.

The football they play is 20 years old with Phelan in the Norwegian paperboys ear. They’ve never moved on from the Fergie tactics of keep lumping it into dangerous areas and play percentages. It ends up being like a pinball machine in the opposition’s box and the rags hoping for a lucky break or a penalty.

City never allowed them to sustain what they wanted to do. The short passes around our box before De Bruyne’s effort off the post was a thing of beauty. I hope they can keep playing like they have done since the Chelsea game as it’s a joy to watch.

Yeah I made the same point about Pogba in another thread a few times. He's definitely rated mostly for his fame and PR. It's like Beckham and Ronaldo. Now, obviously Ronaldo is an excellent player and far better than the other two, but the fame has long outgrown the talent and the fame and sycophantic celebrity worshipping fans is why he gets rated by some as better than Messi and other players from history who were better than him. He's overrated just on a higher level.

Players like Ronaldo, Beckham and Pogba always get overrated on account of their fame and PR. It's the shite world we live in. It makes me wonder if the same happened with Best in the 60s.
It also has something to do with a certain club that they all played for.

I'll leave it for you to try to work out which club that is.

Yeah I know, that is why I mention Best as well. Players who play for United (and to a lesser extent Real Madrid) get hyped to high heaven.

I haven’t stopped shaking my head in disbelief at how utterly deluded their fans are .
Last minute goals, deflections, var, dodgy pens , have got them up there ,yet they truly believe they are contenders!
I,m willing to eat my words but I can’t see them finishing inside the top 4.
Nows a great time to strike a bet with them

I hope you're right but they've been getting dodgy decisions and late, late, late goals for at least 3 decades. And points aren't awarded for quality.

Your point about Best is well made. I saw him play live more times than most United fans because my dad (a Red) used to take me (Blue) to Old Trafford one week and Maine Road the next. This was between 1967 and 1971 (when I became old enough to take myself just to Maine Road).
He was brilliant in some games but very inconsistent and rarely turned up for the biggest matches. I have even seem him being booed by a section of United fans for lack of effort.
You could compare him to Leroy Sane. But the more the years have gone by the bigger the myth has grown. He was nowhere near the level of people like Messi, Ronaldo, Zidane, Cruyff. And I would say David Silva was a vastly better player who never had the recognition.
