United (a) post-match thread

There are reasons why Pep selected these players. He proritises the cups now and gives squad members the chance to prove themselves in a really big game while reasonably managing the fitness of the players expected to start in the CL. Nobody could have seen in advance that Ederson would have a stinker. It's not that it's ok to lose a derby but that shit happens. It's not like Pep is indifferent to losses or to the possibility of losing three times from any manager, let alone Ole of all managers. It's that we have much more important games than Manure, even Sheff W away was more important in the grand scheme of things.

Let’s all look forward to the Grand Scheme Trophy parade in June. My T-shirt is already printed :)

Credit to the lad for filling in out of position and for his positive attitude. Unfortunately, though, he’s not having a good season this time round.

His performance v rags was one of the worst full back displays I can remember.

Agreed mate, he's been an incredible professional throughout this, first season he was an unknown quantity, so very few teams exploited his weaknesses, whereas this time round, he's a clear target.
For me, we have to start Cancelo at left back v Madrid.

Same with Pep Guardiola.

He will be properly appreciated by some fans only after he leaves. Before that they will try to convince themselves it won't be such a big loss because he doesn't get the fans, the derby, plays Rodri and Gundogan, tolerates half-arsed performances, etc.
It's insane, we'll never win such a large haul of trophies in such a short space of time ever again. If he is here until the end of next season I think he'll win another 4 serious honours. We have become so accustomed to success that we will happily sit and complain about a loss 7 days after winning a cup final and an away game in Madrid. He's a winning machine and when he goes we will be going back to the level of Mancini/Pellegrini's teams. Enjoy it whilst it lasts lads, ask Barcelona and Bayern fans if they wish he'd come back - you know the awnser already.

Again, us being better than united doesn’t make losing a derby ok, if anything it makes it worse that a far inferior side has beaten us 3 times. You can list all of our problems but Uniteds are 100 times worse. They managed to get up for the Derby’s though. Not saying I’d swap positions with them, I just wouldn’t select a strange team most times we played them which jeopardises a result.

For me, as well as what you say, the bigger picture to all this, is that we missed at chance to hamstring one of the usual suspects who are colluding behind our backs from getting into the champions league, we've literally gifted them 6 points, we should have put our strongest side out, and whilst the arse are also one of those clubs colluding, they'd be less of a threat, and we'd be at home.

A lot of assumptions there about future wins, together with a short memory about who took us to our first League title in recent years and knocked the GPC off his perch.

I almost mentioned the sick swan but wouldn’t wish to appear small time.

Yeah mate, I love Mancini too, what's not to love? Turned us in to a team to be feared and won us an FA Cup and League title.

No one can deny we are now on another level though? We've surpassed Barcelona, Madrid and Bayern as the most feared team in Europe. We've won back to back league titles, an FA Cup, 3 League Cups and 2 Charity Shields under Pep - I'd say my assumptions about winning more silverware under him are as safe as any assumption anyone could make.

You've clearly got a bee in your bonnet mate because you are responding to anyone not in crisis mode. I'll come back to you next week when we've knocked Madrid out of their competition and when we've beat Newcastle in the FA Cup 6th round to see how you feel then.

Have no doubt, I’ll be celebrating with you if we do :)

I know Pep’s one of the best ever but still have difficulty warming to him and some of the more voluble fanboys.

Anyway, I’ve probably said more than enough. Enjoy your day, mate.
