Rashford being there in offside position caused confusion and hesitation in our defenders, he’s interfering with play, I don’t know the letter of the law and if they’ve removed “ interfering with play “ I’ve not heard about it

That is just an annoying thing that happened today though and cost us but no point moaning about that there’s much bigger issues with us right now
Most worrying time during Pep
I agree totally , but what I find more worrying is Haaland.Am I wrong in thinking that if he doesnt score he contributes nothing-Or is his only job to score ??

I'm normally as balanced as they come but anybody reading that offside law, then watching that and somehow coming to the conclusion that Rashford is in no way impacting the action or positioning of the defenders.. fuck me, what are you all watching? This isn't one you can blame on the law being shit, the referees are all absolute fucking wastrels.

Our entire back line was tracking back in a shape to stop specifically him - including, possibly most importantly, where Ederson is stood. Which allows Fernandes to just pass it into the goal.

They didn't produce any danger at all. We were dominating the match. Or the only way to dominate is to score goals? The match could have laste 500 min and the wqy SH was playing out, we would be in zero danger
Not really true as they had the best 2 chances first half and we had none. Yes the first goal was a farce but the cracks have been there for all to see this season

People wondering why Alvarez wasn't subbed on... It's my theory that Haaland has it in his contract that he will start all PL and UCL games and can only be subbed off if he's already scored. Anyone with the facts at their fingertips care to check if that theory holds up?

I’ve just watched the replay of their first goal and (I know this is unpopular view) as far as I am concerned there was nothing wrong with. Rashford didn’t ”interfer”. The two City defenders closest to the ball didnt stop or noticeably slow down as others on here have suggested.
Akanji noticabley didnt speed up and then claimed the offside. Deffo interfering with play.

And that, in front of the keeper in the penalty area is always offside.

We played OK ffs, if you want to blame then blame the officials
I am more talking about Everton South Hampton etc. we are not playing to the level where we are used to. Could be fatigue could be out of form. But regardless still

Sadly the result I expected before the game. Even after Jack scored I didn't expect us to win. This team has had its day, we've peaked and too many key players are getting old together and on a downward spiral. Haaland for all his goals doesn't contribute much else and once he's isolated and marked we're playing with ten men. Our mentality and hunger has gone. Slow, ponderous, no zip or pace. A trophyless season this one. No way we're winning the league or champions League with this squad, out of the league cup and Arsenal will have too much for us in the FA cup. Maybe I'll cheer up tomorrow but I doubt it.

Oh and as for Atwell and Oliver.....no fucking words.
Cheer up. Lots to play for yet. I expect us to bounce back and win the league.

Read the rule. He could have run circles around it, it still wouldn't have been offside.
The only thing that maybe, maybe, makes it offside is I think he almost goes to kick it with his left. Only noticed it from one angle, but if he does and Ederson spots it, then he goes to save the wrong shot
Mate the defender's attention had to be towards Rashford because of his movement towards the ball, how is that not interfering ?

Hindsight is always 100%

There’s no way to know if we would have won or if we would have been pumped 4-1 had we used your suggested team. I reckon it would have been closer to the latter.

The game was lost due to poor game management apart from very bent refereeing. At the end of first half we were much better and even up till the first goal we had them on toast. Playing Debruyne or Alvarez wide in a high profile match is suicide. Gundo hasn’t done anything of note all season. Grealish proved you right indeed but apart from that I do not agree with a lot of your suggestions.

They are a very counter attacking potent side and if Bernardo’s energy was missing in the middle of the pack, playing KDB and Gundo, maybe the game would have been over at half time. They were able to cut us open when we began to tire and that’s why I expect that we should have tried to managed the game better.

No, you're wrong.

It's not as if they had a stalwart middle as the game played around it anyway. We had no passing lanes through the centre with one option. I don't know why you refuse to see that. De Bruyne was constantly on the wings in the second half, anyway and he was rarely found through the middle in the first half. So, not "suicide" at all.

Having Gundogan would have allowed more vision to the pass through the lines or driving at them. Counterattacking happened with Bernardo in his position today, so why not push him forward to put them on the back foot?

And, since Alvárez pretty much is used to playing on the wing for the national side (and previous clubs) and supporting the striker, it becomes what Foden, Grealish and Mahrez does.

It makes me wonder why you thought having the team as was, was a positive move?

It struck me as cautious and, maybe, overly so for control when the balance could have been that AND with an attacking edge with players not out of form.

If Rashford was not there in an offside position that chance would never have come about.

He wasn't just there but he also prevented City players from playing the ball, he was involved with play and he definitely influenced the outcome of the move.

Disgraceful refereeing and officiating, whether he touched the ball was irrelevant, he ran with it and shielded it for about 10 meters.

It will be interesting to see how many ex officials and players and other pundits stand by it.
Eddie wouldve put it in row ZZ if rashford wasn't there

So a defender slows down because an attacker is in the way of the ball and that's the referee's fault? Sure his job was to try nd defend it and if he had, Rashford would have become offside

Are you thick? If he hasn’t slowed down he would have had to run through him to get to ball which would have been a foul.
