United (H) - League Cup SF 2nd Leg Post-Match Thread

There was 1 attack in the 1st half where the ball was crossed low and hard into United's penalty area. Serg was the only City player inside the 18 yard box. United had 6 players in the 18 yard box. All the other City players where outside the 18 yard box.
Sterling was stood on the edge of the box watching, last season he would've been on the end of it (or Sane would).

That was just game management Karen. When Pep brought off Mahrez he was signaling 5 at the back. It was entirely his choice to stop the counter attacks and defend the lead, conversely I think it was an excellent idea given they beat us last time purely through the counter attack. We had no need to chase another goal and risk being caught on the break. He was conservative in the last quarter of the game.

It was a 2 legged cup game, sensible to make sure we get through. I think tonight Pep was being a football manager. He’s not really arsed that it is Utd at home, he was much more interested in getting us to a cup final and that he has done.
Lovely analysis. His lack of conservatism, especially in Europe, may have been his Achilles Heal at times. Against Madrid, I think him being a football manager, might be the difference between progression or elimination.

A very lack luster performance up front, combined with the usual odd weakness at the back that we just didn't seem to have last season. Absolutely gutted they got one over on us last night. We could and should have battered them out of sight they are so poor. Sterling clearly needs a rest as his confidence is shot, we know why Pep keeps playing him as hes trying to play him back into form , but it just doesn't look like it is working. But it clearly wasn't just Sterling at fault last night, as others have said we didn't seem to have any runners into the box from midfield, KDB was often too wide for liking especially first half and Gundogan just likes to sit back and pass the opposition to death. It improved in patches with Dave in the second half but even he seemed incapable of pulling the trigger when there was a chance to shoot. I really cant see us getting past Madrid at this rate.

The bloke we sit next to is a one off in my experience, but it is so dismal and draining to listen to, but I would say that kind of attitude is pretty prevalent in here. There are an awful lot of bitter, spoiled bastards in here, and it’s pathetic. The difference between disappointment and spoiled bitterness is huge
Draining thats the word, and last night had to log out it was killing my enjoyment of getting to a final.

Well it’s never dull is it? Glad we are through. Don’t get all the negativity really. If they had done us one nil at theirs and we beat them tonight people would feel very differently. We have beaten them , got to a final ( again) . Seriously my old dad used to say there will always be some city fans who hate Utd more than they love city. Winning or losing to them no longer defines our season. It was a two legged tie and we won it, so fuck them, and fuck the agenda to turn our fan base against the manager. I know I might get some stick for this but .. why so glum .? Our “ awful” season sees us second in the league and already booking a Wembley trip.. it could have been better, yes , but it’s been much worse, and it will get better again.
Well said, my man.

City cannot keep wasting all these chances. Not for the 1st time it turned what should of been a comfortable win against a poor team into a loss.
