United (H) - League Cup SF 2nd Leg Post-Match Thread

Although I haven’t looked, statistically you are probably correct. The thing with Liverpool though is that as long as their spine is intact (Alisson, VD, Robertson, TAA, and the front three) it doesn’t seem to matter who else they lose. Apart from losing Alisson for a few games it has been pretty much there are season. In comparison we have consistent problems at CB and LB. maybe our problems are more to do with loss of form from certain individuals rather than injuries?
I do blame it on injuries. Injuries to Laporte and a lesser extent Stones.

In terms of total days lost to injury, I haven't seen the stats, but Liverpool and Man Utd have lost a lot more players but as you say Liverpool have handled it. I think their defence would be wrecked if they lost Van Dijk. City handled losing KDB last season. Some players are key to every team as no squad is perfect.

I'm gutted we lost yet another home derby, but...

We were *miles* better than Utd last night, even playing poorly by our own standards. They were dismal.

They got two shots on target in a game they had to win by two goals even to get to penalties.

Not a single Utd player would get into our team. Not one.

We're Champions, second in the league, holders and in the league cup final, holders and in 5th round of cup, massive game coming up in last 16 Champions league.

What a time to be a blue! Get a grip FFS!!

OK I was questioning why you said we rarely gave the ball away. We did it all night long, worst performance I can remember for years in that respect.

Of course we did.

I mean the stats from the game back you up right?

Was disappointed with the performance last night, but am more sanguine about it today. The hard work was done at Old Trafford, and last night was just about seeing the job through which we did. Would've been nice to have beaten them in both legs, but it'll soon be forgotten and the history books will show that we made it to the final, and they didn't. Still no idea why David Silva didn't shoot, but he has plenty of credit in the bank.

agree

we didn't finish well although I do feel for aguero who only didn't score due to their keepers good reactions.

stats show we where the better team, in the first half it looked like rags couldn't get the ball. Had we won nil we would be posting on here that we controlled the game and it was easy. End of day goals win, but you cant take away the fact that we where the better team by quite some margin. As always though we need to tighten up on the one chance goes in and fucks us over. Would it have happened with ederson & LaPorte ?

already know the final will be a park the bus villa then kick and hope

Genius’s have flaws too: it’s called being human.
A football genius would not blame Pep for that loss. That's a polite way of putting it.

The only criticism I would make of Pep last night is that he possibly selected Sterling to start ahead of Jesus. Sterling is a very important player for us. Do we play him back into form? He can't get his confidence back if he's sitting on the bench. Awkward. The poor finishing wasn't solely Sterling's fault.

I don't know what was going on last night but it should have been 3-1 again, why our players don't take a shot when it's on I don't know. We seem to have turned into Arsenal after their invincible season when they just started overplaying and missing chance after chance to kill games off. It is a worrying sign as is the fact that we have lost twice to United at home this season when they are shit.

The narrative in the media (and from a few blues who were texting me during the match to say how shit we were) seems to be that we were hanging on and that they were unlucky not to have taken it to pens. Feel like I was at a different game. Admittedly the decision making in front of goal and finishing generally was abysmal but as far as I can remember they had one clear chance all match when Maguire headed over, scored from a half chance and that was about it whereas if we had even just been average in front of goal, we would have scored 3 minimum. Biggest worry for me was that it wasn't just poor finishing but one or two players looked frightened to take the responsibility to try to score. Raheem's confidence looks shot to pieces, I hope people remember what he has done over the last couple of years and show him some patience and support rather than giving him shit because I always have the feeling there are plenty of people, even City fans who can't wait to get on his case.
