United (H) Post Match Thread

Sobered up now, and have read some of the posts again, do i feel better - no. Still not happy he played a weakened team for this game but at half time was thinking it was paying off. However in the back of my mind, it was only 2 goals and we had missed some sitters - Aguero would have got at least 1 goal with the way we were playing. It semed obvious to me that Utd were going to come at us in the second half and stir things up a bit. That's exactly what they did, the ref gave them a bit of leeway and we lost it big time. That has been the same all season , any team that has a go gives us problems. Whether we cope or not depends on the quality of the opposition and who we have on the pitch but this has been happening all season and it hasn't been corrected . Defensively we have always had a few mistakes in us and been comical at times. Don't know how we will do on Tuesday, i suspect Liverpool will play very tight and we will struggle to score the goals we need to progress. But one things for sure i would have liked to have gone into that game with a win against Utd, a Premier League title on the shelf and 50,000 happy blues . As it is, i think Pep has missed a trick. As someone said earlier, possibly end the season on a par with Pelligrini

Pelligrini had to make do with stop gaps like Demichilis, Lampard, Fernando, Sagna etc. Pep has spent an absolute truck load of money and been given nearly every player he wanted barring Sanchez and Dani Alves.we have been dumped out of Europe by Monaco and by the looks of it Liverpool to show for that return hardly Europe’s elite.

Really feels like we’ve regressed and nothing has been learned when it came to two big games and they’ve stopped doing what’s made the team be successful all season. What happened to the hunting the ball down in packs to stop the other team building a platform in the game? Looked like we were running through treacle v Liverpool and you could see that coming yesterday in how they came out 2nd half and the changes were way too late. Gudhongan isn’t quick enough to do what is needed when we haven’t got the ball. Two of those goals happened through not tracking a deep runner when they broke through the lines, the 3rd was playground stuff.

Decided not to think straight away about it last night and sleep on it......stillabsolutely devastated by yesterday! :-( sterling really needs to look at himself for his finishing as them chances he had he never even came close to scoring and that’s unforgivable! Then conceding 2 in a minute or so is so weak mentally it’s untrue and shows this team are nowhere near being the best in a mental way as it just shouldn’t happen! Pep also isn’t a reactive manager, numerous times this season that he has needed to make a change or two sooner and then seems to be sort of panicked into doing something. Going to complete a shit week for the club when we don’t make it on Tuesday and it’s the second time in days we have conceded 3 goals in one half against a rival which is totally unacceptable

I can only assume Eddie Large was in the changing rooms at half time

Chance to redeem ourselves Tuesday but can only think Klopp will have watched yesterday and know exactly what he needs to do

Agreed with everything in this until the last sentence. It’s miles over the top. Pellegrini is not in the same universe as a manager. And I will not soon forget the utter deflation of his second and third seasons. Pep will analyse things, fix them, and we’ll actuallly be better next season. But he is a very stubborn man, there’s no denying it.

I guess you have to ask would you rather be in our shoes going forward than theirs.

I will take us and even if I was a neutral I would still take us.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think United's second half was anywhere near as good as is being made out.

The first goal of theirs was fantastic, but the two after just show the fatigue that we had. Second half we were dead on our feet, Silva and Fernandinho clearly struggled and as a result we lost all control in the middle which Pogba and Sanchez exploited.

I don't think United are anywhere near our level, as the league table shows. What happened yesterday was what happens when you're physically spent, and you miss guilt edge chances. United missed great chances v us at Old Trafford in December. Shit happens. We're gonna overcome this deficit Tuesday and win the league - it's not all bad.
Your point about the fatigue is spot on. Liverpool looked spent at the end of their match, too. In hindsight, Pep probably was right to rest Kev and the strikers for Tuesday. No surprise that Delph looked our best player.

I would suggest that the club think more carefully about the fixture list in future, and ask for these high profile games to be played where they don't fall too near to CL game dates.

The agenda was well and truly on for Mr. Atkinson and his team. However, that’s no excuse. We could have had 7 or 8 before Pogba scored. We need to be more ruthless like all the other top teams, we waste so many clear cut chances it’s really poor. Sterling will be gutted this morning but he’s had a great season and we need to get behind him (as hard as it is after those horrendous efforts yesterday).

Easier to see the bigger picture this morning and 2 trophies is something we'd all have took at the beginning of the season.

The team selection though still riles. I wonder how much/if any pressure he is under from above to deliver a CL.

Absolute shame we didn't win it against the scum but not the end of the world, I'm 100% certain we will still go on to win it
i don't mind the team selection, in fact it was working for a long time until we started playing shit. That team should have been good enough to win that game, especially from 2-0 up.
