If you want to get off the beaten track try Detroit, Buffalo, Gary Indiana, Rochester etc.

Always has a fun time in Detroit/Dearborn/Windsor and Buffalo is alright. Rochester despite being on the lake is a bit boring and Gsry is actually really depressing to see in a country of such wealth.

But you're right, get off the beaten path.

Some scenery tips:
Montana (esp Glacier National Park)
North Carolina coast
Michigan Upper peninsula

Great cities:
Chicago
Nashville
Portland, Oregon

And it's expensive but Alaska is a must see.

I like the cities, I like the people but I couldn't live there. The ultra-capitalism chokes the life out of me within a week. Best tourism only - and they don't make it easy to do that anymore.

I could live there, i really like the place. I know what you mean about capitalism though, and they are very tought at customs upon entry, but thats how it should be.

I wanna live there too.

Sight my sights on it by the time I'm 45!!

Tough ask!!

Obama doesnt like immigrants

One of the first things he did was tighten immigration

Go figure

Emigrated last September - love it here, no regrets at all (although watching City from afar win the League and parade the trophy got me homesick!). I live in a nice small town built around a beautiful lake, fantastic weather (dreading the lecky bill with the air conditioner on all day!), friendly people (the odd neighbour included!!).

Boston is 40 mins away on the slow train for the gigs / night out etc and the fantastic Cape Cod is 90 mins by car to the centre of it, bit longer to the tip.

Bastard!
Never thought I'd miss chips (proper chips, not fries...) cheese and onion pie and curry sauce... :(
September 15th was my last portion.....

Chicago is a great City (probably my fav. place in the U.S). I have also drove all through N.Y state and really enjoyed it. Buffalo is an absolute fucking shit hole that should be condemned. We used to go to bars down there on saturday nights (uncle sams, the library etc.), because it was $1.00 a drink, Canadian money accepted at par and girls drink free. Basically, a minge fest. First thing sunday morning, head north before we see any locals.

Haha...a bit harsh mate but I'm sure they get the idea.

Somebody must have emptied a mop bucket in that last pic.

Oakville eh? Didn't know you were posh ;)

Oh yes...in between the lake and Lakeshore Road East. Quite quaint round those parts. Rest of Oakville was a bit more commercial. Probably all built up now. This was 20 years ago.

Still a very nice place to live, especially down by the lake, and only half hour west of the "big City". I did a job down there last year and actually lived there with my Auntie and Uncle for the first two or three months that we came to Canada (just off Maple drive, down by the lake). A far cry from Scarborough (east Toronto).

i like small town america. there's something quintessentially timeless and pleasant about many small towns all over america. (there are some inbred dumps in certain parts though).

America is delightfully diverse both in the rural areas and the cities. Its also painfully polarized/bifricated. Politics/bullshit aside we offer so much in this country technologically, educationally, and naurally. We have beaches, mountains, desert, high desert, lakes coastline, plains, immense forests etc.. Basically America has something for just about everyone.

I feel like I won the nation lottery being born here but I have become increasingly disilusioned with my country for a variety of reasons. If I could, I would leave in a heartbeat. That isnt 100% about me wanting to get away from America but because of my circumstances.

We have pig ignorant rednecks, red diaper doper babies, fascists, commies and everything in between. Americans are amongst the fattest, slovenly oafish people but on the other hand we are an EXTREMELY generous lot. There is no denying that.

I have supported City for almost 35 years and have been to England many, many times and have met so many friendly warm people. But I also know you lot have a many morons amongst you. So what?? All countries do.

I have lived in New York City for over 25 years and New York State almost my entire life. I dont think there is another city on earth like New York. Its electric.

The bottom line is, just like everywhere else, we have both good and bad. But IMHO America has so much MORE good than bad..........
