I wouldn't say you were alone, but I sincerely hope you're in the minority.
Why is that? I know you're not getting at me, but why would I watch a team play that I have no interest in, and actually dislike. For me it would be like eating food I found distasteful, drinking a brand of beer I can't stand (Holts) or watching tennis which renders me comatose.
You have no interest in our closest rivals? Really?
Their close rivals now, but for a very long time they were close only in geography.
In truth, for the longest time, watching Utd only reinforced just how poor we were, I was more interested in getting to 40 points, if I had any interest in other teams it was the likes of Stoke, Bolton, Blackburn, Everton, they were our rivals. Not too long ago we were like flotsam, it seemed we were not in control of our destiny, we were poor to middling and the performance of other poor to middling clubs effected our destiny big time.
Now we have our destiny on our hands, it's a point rammed home time and again by Mancini, he hated having to hope for a result at Sunderland, he knows the mark of true winners is to keep going, it was a point of praise he had for Utd early on in the season, but he changed his mind once he saw Utd sit on a three goal lead against us and then come to the Etihad for a draw.
When you forget to frame your successes and failures objectively and start to frame them relative to others you stop being a winner and become nothing more than the last man standing, that is the reason Utd threw away their eight point lead.
Over the last couple of weeks Ferguson has been bleating to anyone who will listen and on almost every occasion he either directly or indirectly refers to us, is that a sign of strength or weakness?
In the league points means prizes, so I keep an eye on the points tally of other teams if it threatens us, but how they got those points is immaterial to me, unless a study of their tactics helps us to beat them when we meet. Otherwise the only time I take notice of other teams is when they are on the field of play against City.
I don't advocate this in life, but in football I'm a great believer in "f**k em, and forget em".
