Eric Cantona 'kung fu kicked coffee table after Manchester United lost title'

By Paul Byrne |

Eric Cantona Kung Fu kicked a coffee table after watching Manchester United lose their Premier League title last season.

His son Raphael revealed his dad’s torment to a United fan in Barcelona.

He said the pair had watched the season’s climax on TV and thought the Reds had held on to the title as rivals Manchester City were being held at home by QPR.

But City’s Sergio Aguero scored a winner with just seconds left to hand the Premier League trophy to the Sky Blues on goal difference.

Raphael, 23, said his dad, famed for his Kung Fu attack on Crystal Palace fan Matthew Simmons in 1995, kicked out at the coffee table.

He told United supporter Jonathan Cruise: “It smashed to pieces. My dad was angry and upset. He still adores United and we thought they were going to hang on to the title.”

Jonathan, 21, from Surrey, met Raphael outside a club in Barcelona.

He said: “It was about 2am and I had gone outside for a cigarette. A guy kindly asked me for a cigarette so I gave him one and he then asked me where I was from.

“When I said ‘from Surrey’ he smiled. He went on to ask me if I was a 'giver' or a 'taker', when I said 'taker' he smiled even more.

“He went on to say ‘my father is the king fisherman in Manchester’ and when I asked what he meant he said his dad was Eric Cantona.

He went on to tell me what had happened on the last day of the season with a big grin on his face.

“He said the coffee table just disintegrated onto the carpet and we had a laugh at what had happened.

“I told him it was a pleasure to meet Cantona’s son and we shook hands.

“When we got back to England we checked his Facebook account and there is no doubt it was definitely Raphael. He was a sound guy.

“It shows just how passionate his dad still is about United.”

Cool story bro ;-)

The season Mourinho joined Chelsea 04/05, Chelsea won the league and League cup, Arsenal won the FA Cup.
1997/98 Arsenal won the double and Chelsea won the league cup.
2001/02 Arsenal won the double, Blackburn won the league cup
What you talking about Willis!!!

This is about since the Glazer's took over, not Taggart.

does anyone remember that season when they won the league cup and baconface was leading his players in singing "championees"? cringeworthy and funny at the same time.

Re: United thread 2012/13.

i was watching an old united-chelsea game. What happened to Rooney? He used to be quick footed with pace to burn. what happen to that player?? he was 22 then. Its like he stagnated(or regressed) rather than progress.

Re: United thread 2012/13.

Smoking and granny shagging, may it be a lesson to all.

Still scored enough goals last year though for the scum.
I don't think he's saying he watches United as much as City. He's saying he'll watch another match should City NOT be playing at the same time, whether it be United, Arsenal or Chelsea.

I certainly don't see what's hard to understand about that. As a fan of football, I'd have thought it to be fairly understandable to see why one would watch a game of football on the tv, should his own club not be playing, and if it happens to be a main rival, then surely the opportunity to watch them (hopefully) drop points is something you wouldn't pass up?

To me, your argument seems to typify a fan who seems to think they are 'a bigger blue than you' because they 'refuse' to watch United or any other rival and therefore you think your 'hate' for them comes across as stronger.

I'd have thought the majority of City fans watched both the Champs League finals where Barca mauled United, mainly because the opportunity to witness such a mauling was too much to pass up, being both a City fan AND a football fan.
Sorry but you've not read my posts. I posted that I watched certain United games towards the end of last season when City had an interest. I also watched the CL final for precisely the reasons you set out. Being a blue is not a competition and I certainly don't consider myself a "better" supporter tha anyone else. He said he watched every United match that didn't clash with City. That's not something I understand, even with the desire to see them get beaten - because their record suggests that more often than not, I would be disappointed. Tongue in cheek I called him a closet rag but actually he's a football fan just like me but with much greater tolerance for watching United win.

-- Mon Jul 23, 2012 5:14 pm --

I generally switch off if they go 3 up (and nearly turned off when they came back to 2-2 against Blackburn) but luckily stayed with it.

I fucking loathe Utd and as such, I find their games to be fascinating, it gives a game meaning and their games at the start of the season are just as important as those at the end.

I watch the rags on telly as much as I can in the hope they will get battered. Once they go 2 up I turn over. Occasionally you get a nice surprise - Everton for example.

lol i only last til they go 1 up, i switched off the everton game and left the house determined to stay away from the result, got back and switched on ssn. The result was just beginning to scroll across the bottom, i saw they'd scored 4 and was about to switch off in disgust. What i saw next will live with me til my dying day.
