And they say romance is dead;

He's a real smoothie, that one.
People who sell stories like that to newspapers are sub-human scum.

Yep. Prostitution after the fact and nothing better than that.

Just got the Mata press conference on in the background. He seems a really nice bloke; what the fuck is the likes of him doing at that shower of ubercunts?

He is doing exactly what he has said "Hi Mr International Manager, look at me I am playing every game I could go to the world cup" unfortunately the manager is saying "who....Why we already have Silva and 3 other midfielders who are better"

But surely he has understood that once he dons the scarlet tablecloth he automatically moves up three places in the pecking order, no matter what the country!! That effectively puts him ahead of Silva, Xavi and Iniesta!

Baines: "I never wanted to leave Everton."

But you did, because United and their Southern based PR machine said you did, not to mention Moyes putting in an offer knowing you were going to ask for a transfer, and every United fan telling us you were going to join United.

No footballer ever turns United down. Just their name and history alone seals every transfer. ;-)

It would seem from the media coverage in this country in the last week that the rags are going to sweep all before them. However, on looking at the facts, they were knocked out of one cup competition last Wednesday at home to a team in the bottom 2 of the Premier League, and didn't have a game at the weekend as they were knocked out at home in the 3rd round to a team currently 15th in the table. Tells you all you need to know.

They know how to give their fans false hope. Give Mata the 8 shirt so they think someone bigger is coming to fill the number 7.

No the intention was to give him the number 7 shirt but they forgot that they had given Rooney a clause in his contract to sign off on all new squad numbers.

Footballer or not, he's 18 ffs! What did she expect?!

As an aside, fully agree with GDM's sentiments on the previous page, sub human.

Rags PR machine in action again. All of a sudden Woodward is transfer genius, who'd have thought it?

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/jan/26/chelsea-manchester-united-juan-mata-transfer" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.theguardian.com/football/blo ... a-transfer</a>

@SwissRamble: United's PR machine is spinning like a top in the papers this morning. "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the public's intelligence."
In one paper it said Kia Joorabchian was the 3rd party as Chelsea wouldn't speak to the rags if they'd known they were interested. In another it said it was Ferguson & Gill who did the negotiations. And now the Guardian tells us it was Woodward but he only did it in writing to avoid any mention of Rooney. So which one is right?

I'm also baffled as to why the media are not questioning two obvious issues with Woodward only wanting to communicate in writing.

1) Why was Woodward ‘scared’ to talk face-to-face with Chelsea? Would he have crumbled and handed over Rooney for half a Curly Wurly and a can of Tizer?

And more glaring obvious

2) If Chelsea wanted to ask about Rooney I’m pretty sure they are capable of putting it in writing too.

Or is asking the right questions too simple a construct for the British media to comprehend?
