I have a question and it is really something that I'm sure is a "newbie" question. I'm a fan and I am very comfortable with what I see on the pitch as I played for 23 seasons as a kid/teenager, but there are a lot of general off field things that I don't have a full grasp on. I hear commentary on Sirius/XM FC (soccer satellite radio here in the States) or during the match broadcasts and it gets me to thinking. I don't have anybody that has the knowledge that most of the folks on this forum have as a result of growing up with the sport.

As a City fan that loves to see the floundering of the Rags, what is the overall best desired result for the season? Would it be a total collapse that would result in Moyes being sacked and the team being retooled in the Summer? That would mean no CL and no Europa League. Or would it be better to see Man U lose soon in CL, lose in the Capital One Cup, and then finish 5th in the EPL? That would put them in Europa and probably save Moyes for at least one more season and probably cause them to evaluate their roster though they wouldn't really go crazy as they would feel that they were really pretty close with their current staff.

I'm thinking a 5th place finish would be the best result. Europa sucks as it forces the teams to play on Thursdays which would further hurt them in the EPL next season. They would have a lot of added pressure and would very likely push back them doing what they would really need to do to fix their problems and extend their agony.

Do I have this right or is it best to just continue to love their downfall and hope they finish as far down the table as possible?

You've pretty much got it bang on there, mate. Their demise needs to be slow so that they don't do something drastic that might actually be beneficial to them. A couple of years of the clueless one should see them doing an arsenal for the foreseeable future (not winning stuff but making plenty of money).

I usually just enjoy reading the posts on here but the just wanted to say I think Mark Hughes analogy is bang on. I hope they stick with him longer than we kept Sparky though, who knows they might even make 4th in a couple of years! >:)

Correctamondo.

Keep Gollum at Trafford.

More realistically, they will take a hit for a deeper debt and give him £50m which is an above average transfer kitty.

I find this frightening as they have a record of getting good players in the £7m bracket. Bebe, for one.

They ain't got 200 million to spend.Even if they have and do isn't that going to break FFP? First they have to attract the players, then pay off the agents and then there is the wage package, whittling the amount of players they can buy right down.

If they DO blow that kind of cash bang goes their myth of building slowly, the right way and bringing the youth players through.I spoke to a Birmingham fan on holiday,a sound guy and i was amazed that even he swallowed that claptrap,it just goes to show you how the media and their hype machine brainwash people.

What I am enjoying most is that this mess is entirely of their own making.

When they were in cahoots with other clubs be it to create the Premier League or Champions League they were arrogant enough to think the cash cow and ensuing success would last forever as nobody would dare upset the status quo. Had we still had the sky4 they would have got away with this ‘transition period’ as nobody else would have had the money to compete.

No matter what noises they are making through their media friends or delusional fans on forums about giving Moyes time the fact is they are fast running out of it. No CL next year is a huge loss for them both on and off the field. Liverpool have found out that once you out of the top 4 it’s very difficult to get back in, and no matter how hard you try you are relying on a club to monumentally stuff up for you to even have a slither of a chance.

They’ve lived by the sword, now they’ll die by it.

I was in my local last night here in Chicago minding my business talking to friends when I here some stupid glory glory scum song being sung. Two rags mid bar (Irish ones, imagine that) must have seen my City scarf and decided to get gobby. Asked them how it went today.........blank faces. Asked them what their league position was.......blank faces. Clued them into both and gave it a little Moyes In and tge Chosen One, they left the bar. They really are clueless and cant take abuse. It's going to be an even better time than usual being a Blues!

Very well said and I agree, if they completely fuck it up, then they will radically make changes and quickly too which may turn things around. We need a slow death, and I'm going to laugh myself into ejaculation at this rate.
