Mata signing piles the pressure on Moyes to get the top 4 spot. £54m spent on the Champions and what will they have to show for it?

He has taken them to their lowest ebb for 30 years, and it has all happened so quickly.

Having spent so much it will take a remarkable turnaround for him to keep is job now. Ironically without Mata, he'd probably stand more chance of a 2nd year

Man u wouldn't sell to Chelsea, so why do Chelsea sell to them. Don't understand that bit.
Chelsea do not have to play utd anymore in the league so by selling mata to the rags, Chelsea have now more chance of other teams dropping points against the rags which would increase their chances of winning the league.
I know Mourinho is a short term manager, but that would be ridiculous even by his standards. Strengthening a long term rival just for a potential half a year benefit would be beyond stupid. Presumably, Chelsea just don't think United are going to be a long term rival, or (less plausibly) they don't think Mata is good enough to genuinely help UNited, or the conspiracy theory that it's all to facilitate a Rooney move in the opposite direction in the Summer. Selling Mata to buy Rooney would be a terrible decision though, he's a far better player
Well look at the positives of selling him;

He is on their bench
40million
FFP to think about
Might be a problem in the dressing room
Had his worst season to date
Could fund a new striker (maybe have a clause about shrek)

There's positives and negatives to every situation.

Do you mean £64 million? Sounds even better!

It's great money, but I thought that was the one thing Chelsea had? And would you say they need the money to finance an overhaul of their squad? They only need one or two goalscorers

When the Mata transfer goes through, by my rough and ready calculation, it'll take the net spend of united above City over the last twelve months.
I have a delicious status of 'buying their way to the Europa League' ready and waiting. Childish? Yes. Will it catch a few? Most definitely.

I would throw this sum into the transfer as a whole:

United - Mata = no 4th spot
United + Mata = no 4th spot

Easy peasey, lemon squeezy.

They are all just reasons to sell him, none are good reasons to sell him to a rival. Surely there'd be other takers?
