THE FOOTBALL GRAPEVINE: Ronaldo's United move isn't dead yet, Benteke could be the answer to Arsene's problem... and Balotelli and Mourinho might be reunited

David Moyes' admission that Manchester United still believe they can lure Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford should not surprise Grapevine readers.
And while the prospect of a move being achieved in January is highly unlikely, a deal after next summer’s World Cup finals to sign Ronaldo IS on the agenda.
At the start of the season this column revealed the main reason United’s summer activity in the transfer market had been 'off the pace' was because the club genuinely felt that they could land Ronaldo for this season so the funds had been set aside.
Wanted: Cristiano Ronaldo scored for Real Madrid at Almeria before being taken off injured+17
Wanted: Cristiano Ronaldo scored for Real Madrid at Almeria before being taken off injured
For a variety of reasons - not least the time it took for Real Madrid to sign Gareth Bale - Ronaldo's proposed return did not happen.
Yet it was the 'big gift' that Sir Alex Ferguson had hinted at bequeathing his successor.
It’s over a year now since what was passed off as a friendly 'for old times' sake' dinner at a top London casino between Ronaldo, his advisers and members of the United hierarchy took place.
Actually, it sowed the seeds of a potential mega-commercial deal to bring the player back to United, which the club’s owners the Glazers see as part of their global strategy.
Stint: Ronaldo won three Premier Leagues and the Champions League during his six years at United+17
Success: Ronaldo won three Premier Leagues and the Champions League during his six years at United
When Bale arrived at Madrid, Ronaldo soon signed a new deal. Apart from more hard cash there was a vanity aspect to it - Ronaldo making sure he remained the highest paid and 'numero uno' star. In turn the club protected a future transfer fee.
When it was signed it was suggested that any chance of United buying Ronaldo back had gone for good. That though is not the case.
As Moyes admitted this week: [color=#00BFFF]'Everyone at Manchester United would tell you he (Ronaldo) is the best in the business. I have not been fortunate enough to work with him but there is still a hope some day it might be possible.'

Fuck sake.. Moyes could bore the dead back to life..

What is it with these tossers? How come, when a team that is currently champions has slipped so badly this season and languishes in mid table, instead of putting the boot in and criticising, saying they're crap, etc, the media just keeps harping on about them signing Ronaldo/Cavani/Baines/Reus etc and having hundreds of millions to spend?

This despite the fact the Glazers are trying to screw them for money so wouldn't spunk that kind of cash, and that Moyes is hardly a draw for most top European players. Yet when it comes to us, with 100+ goals, good chance of silverware this season and a plethora if top players already here! we don't get linked with signing anyone of note these days. It's obvious we need a top class partner for Vinnie at the back, yet I see no media links (even if bullshit) to the likes of Hummels, Cahill, Thiago Silva, et al.

Seems it'll take a while for the rag propaganda to jump ship and start treating them like any other mid table side.

The longer they stay deluded and blinkerd the better and the mass ranks of the press are helping them stick their heads up their own arse

“Manchester United are not only the biggest club in this country, they are the biggest club in the world,” Moyes said. “I don’t think any of the aura is fading whatsoever. I think some of the results have been not what you want, but I don’t think the aura is fading; in fact, I actually think the opposite.

“I don’t see an issue when it comes to signing players, not judging by my trips and the things I’m hearing. The amount of big players who want to join United is incredible. Maybe players want to go for the money to other clubs, but if you asked them where they really want to be, what club they’d really like to wear the badge of, they want to wear the badge of Manchester United. Players are not looking at the share price. What they’re looking at is the club, what it stands for in football terms.”

David Moyes has actually said this. He really, really has.

To save people clicking on it, here's what is says:
More City Woes
Had cause to be up at the new city training centre at east lands today which is due to be open in July ish.

Hugely depressing in short. Unbelievable facilities and a staggering amount of investment in Manchester. Whilst we're tying up f**king hand creams in Thailand, these f**kers are investing in what will be an unrivalled training and academy facility in the city the club sits.

On top of which, my youngest who is five has just been invited down to train with city (alongside his team mates - they are unbelievably good for their age). Wtf? Where are united? Radcliffe borough is literally 6/7 miles from carrington.

I say this because I honestly feel that united have to up their game, certainly in Manchester.
They're going to be absolutely suicidal when we announce the development of the collar site shortly!
