You already see van Gaal's handwriting. There will be backlashes - but he does what he always does. The question is only how long it will take.

It is not about being a tactical genius - there is others. It is about influencing players and making them a lot better - about forming a system that works out of nothing and playing modern football. About having the guts to play players other coaches would not have recognized and finding the real special ones.

Van Gaal's only or biggest problem is his ego... Is there another Alphamale at Manchester United that could interfere?

It's a Micky mouse friendly
but they`ve just beat the European champions....
we might as well hand all the trophies over to them now...
the wankfest will be absolutely mind numbing, forget your two page spread in every paper, they`ll be a pull out section with free t-shirt tokens attatched...
all hail king potato head..

Watched the 2nd half and the game was a farce, just an endless round of substitutions. I wouldn't take anything from other than the noticeable commitment of the Utd players. They look like they are playing to make an impact on their new manager

Put it on for 2 mins just to see if LVG is serous about 5 at the back and he is! So they going bore teams to death and hit on the break with speed! Like LVG said its easier to set a team up to defend

I can't help thinking we have missed a trick here. United and Liverpool have really gone for this competition not for the honour of winning it but to get a big piece of the increasing American interest. Playing a weaken team particularly in defence makes sense in terms of building up for the new season after a world cup but there is a long term game going on here.

I do like the idea of their big players knocking lumps off each other in this final before the season starts, but if we had scored big victories against both of them in front of this potentially lucrative American audience we would have increased our importance in world football considerably (and dampen theirs)
