Shame that the rags and dippers can't both win this joke match. Their collective delusion would reach impossible heights.

Their really running out of top options at CB and CM aren't they. If they intend to play 352/532 they'll be struggling for cover at centre half, although I can see them signing Vermaelen. Things don't look much better in CM either with Fellaini supposedly on his way leaving them with Herrera, Cleverley & an injured Carrick.

The constant Hummels & Vidal rumours are great reading, never seen their fans so desperate and gullible.

And, by recent showings, a very poor Fletcher (though, unlike the others, he actually has a very reasonable excuse for the lack of quality).

You can tell Van Gaal is aware of the issues, as well, as he continually indicates he "may not bring in anyone else" as he "likes what he has seen". Trying to manage expectations.

As much as i would like to see their total collapse and demise i fear it won't happen.Last season they were appaling yet they still finished 7th.It was pretty obvious from early doors the players didn't like or rate Moyes so stopped playing for him so he would be gone.He would have been sacked sooner but wasn't due to the clause in his contract about his pay off.

The new manager is a different kettle of fish, they have a few new players and no European distractions, they will be there or therabouts, especially if they buy a quality centre half.

I always appreciate more measured perspectives like this one but I think you are being very optimistic with your purchase requirements.

I think it is safe to say, as discussed above, they need at least one or two higher-level midfielders, at least one top-class centreback (as you said), and, in my opinion, a better right back for a brand new system that has to integrate a gluttony of centreforwards/attacking midfielders with big egos.

A sensible, reasoned, objective post.
To go from 7th to 4th is not a huge ask and they have a manager who knows what he is doing.
They will be pushing for a top 4 spot regardless of whether we like it or not.

It all depends whether Van Gall can get them through the first few weeks on personality alone. Without a few quality reinforcements the team isn't good enough and they'll struggle adapting to his system.

I'll make another reasoned prediction: they'll become the new Arsenal, in that 4th will be their league title. People will moan and so on and so forth but ultimately the Glazers will be content with the Champions League football and the continued money milking opportunities.

I think people are discounting them too easily. Last season was fun for us all but they still have a team that strolled to the title before Moyes. Also as we saw with Pool this year, no having any European football means they can play their strongest 11 every week and not rotate. I see them as challengers this year and they should be after what they have spent

Forgot about Fletcher, a horrible set of central midfielder's. Carrick has regressed anyway but his injury doesn't help.

I think Van Gaal was hoping he'd have Strootman in the bag until his injury, now he's ran out of realistic quality options.
