I can't help thinking we have missed a trick here. United and Liverpool have really gone for this competition not for the honour of winning it but to get a big piece of the increasing American interest. Playing a weaken team particularly in defence makes sense in terms of building up for the new season after a world cup but there is a long term game going on here.

I do like the idea of their big players knocking lumps off each other in this final before the season starts, but if we had scored big victories against both of them in front of this potentially lucrative American audience we would have increased our importance in world football considerably (and dampen theirs)

We've just bought a club in the most publicity rich city in the USA!!!

To want us to push ourselves in a nothing tournament when we have a more important domestic game a few days after this magnificent final is ludicrous.

Let the historians fight it out. We'll win the ones that matter

We may well have missed a marketing trick but I ask myself which would we rather aim for:

a) plastic ejaculation over a Micky Mouse Cup, or
b) a couple of real trophies at the end of the season?

Both look bollocks

Still no defensive signings?

Utd will regret this. Should have got the players in a week ago, and been working together out in the USA

Don't think they will because the way LVG is setting up his team 5-3-2 very defensive and hit teams on the break! Like LVG said setting up a team to defend is easy
Setting a team up to defend may be easy but you still need good defenders to make it work,

Eitherway, it's kerching for the Glazers and their shareprice in the US markets. They have an annoying knack for this sort of thing.

The highlight of 2014 for Manchester United Football Club = The Guinness International Cup! ;)

Haha, spot on. Good thing is the silly bastards will hang onto it aswell, seeing it as step forward. Just waiting for the day when they finish 15th on a regular basis and no champs league for a good while. I despise the bastards and everything they stand for.

After their victory over Real Madrid their fans are already popping up all over social media sites spouting,''United are back!Bring on the Scousers on Monday!''

It is our duty to crush the cockroaches of both these clubs once more and send any survivers scuttling back under the cold dark stones of despair and failure!

You're going to be waiting a long time, withe the cash they generate they will always be in the top half of the league, last year wss a bonus for us they were total shite, I can't see it happening again. The Glazers know that they need a successful team to keep generating more moneyl from time to time they will need to make wholesale changes.

I quite like the idea of them finishing behind us though on a regular basis.

Their really running out of top options at CB and CM aren't they. If they intend to play 352/532 they'll be struggling for cover at centre half, although I can see them signing Vermaelen. Things don't look much better in CM either with Fellaini supposedly on his way leaving them with Herrera, Cleverley & an injured Carrick.

The constant Hummels & Vidal rumours are great reading, never seen their fans so desperate and gullible.
