You do realise that three of the first choice back four from that team have left and been replaced by an overrated teenager and Smalling, Evans and Jones?
I think van Gaal will get them back in the top four simply because van Gaal is a much better manager than Moyes but I don't think that defence is good enough to win the league. A full-strength City side, I would expect to tear that defence apart. I'd also expect the bigger threat to be Chelsea but I'm not that convinced about them either. Although, without exception, Mourinho's second season at a club is his best so it would be foolish to write them off, I'm feeling about as confident as I can going into this season.

If you finish above Chelsea, you win the league. It's that simple IMO.

The two sides are, as it stands, still some way ahead of the rest.

I do think United will scrap for 3rd with Arsenal though, simply because they have Van Gaal - a manager that actually has tactical nous unlike Moyes. Dont under estimate (not you specifically) the sheer difference in quality between Moyes & Van Gaal - it's light years.

Rodgers' Liverpool benefitted from no European distractions last season and challenged right up until the last minute before they bottled it. I don't see why United couldn't do similar but they need a couple more players - certainly 2x CB and 1x CM.

Personally I am just edging towards Chelsea, mainly because like you say Mourinho is in his the 2nd season and has made some astute signings:

1. Chelsea
2. Man City
3. Arsenal
4. Man Utd
5. Liverpool
6. Tottenham
7. Everton

This commentator on sky is annoyingly sucking off the rags.

"This match is what America wanted to see"

Haha, the stadium is half empty.

For sure ! They've been talking it up right from the start and largely ignoring the thousands of empty seats.

So 109,000 went to see Real Madrid then.

I'm lead to believe from my sauce that there are plans to count all pre season matches as points in the league.

Apparently Phil Jones got ripped to bits by Sterling. I can't see Jones starting the season for Utd if Van Gaal is going to use this set-up in the Premiership which you must assume he will

Of course I am biased, but I don't see us finishing below 1st again.

The only reason it was so close last year was that Sergio was out for long spells and Jovetic wasn't fit.

Had they both been available, the League would have been done and dusted long before May.

It's all about opinions, but have Chelsea really improved that much?

A lot of it will depend on Diego Costa. If it clicks with him, that'll be the difference IMO, as Chelsea seriously lacked up top last year.

I agree on missing Aguero doesn't help, however there is no guarantee he will stay fit, and the same applies to Jovetic I suppose.

One assumes they played badly and won, seems to have re discovered that way of winning again as Baconface used to do. Be interesting to see how many teams roll over for them this year. They are scum, but unfortunately now and again scum has a habit of rising to the top.

I will leave any judgement till December when they have played half their games but the press are going to be in wank mode for them.

As for the Dippers another candle lit vigil no doubt.
