It isn't often I go against the concensus on Bluemoon but I thought Fellaini was quite decent yesterday. He kept it simple, looked strong, put himself about and he looked a bit of a threat when he went forward. Along with De Bruyne and Vinny he was one of Belgium's better players.

He isn't though in any shape or form an answer to what United need to start to challenge us and I can't see any sort of game plan from Van Gaal that would have a player of his type involved. I think he could do well at an Italian club where he really would stand out as they do "niggly" but don't really do "robust" in that league.
He (Fellaini) reminded me of nobody but... me, about eight years ago. Bustling about like I was late for a drama, when in fact, the ball had just passed through.

PS: I was about 40, back then. Fellaini is twenty-somethong!

How shit is fellaini?? lol hope he will stay at man u for life..buhuhu..and i am sick of people hailing van gaal as some kind of tactical genius for that GK substitution he made after ET.

I wouldn't worry about it. If he was any sort of tactical genius they wouldn't have been taking penalties
against Cost Rica.

That whole substitution/penalties thing was a nonsense. According to today's reports he swapped to Krul because he's taller! The two he saved were bad penalties, almost certain to be saved by any keeper going the right way. If taking off a fully warmed up and focused keeper and replacing him with one off the bench is tactical genius, then its no wonder I'm not a manager because I think its plain stupid.

As posted above, a tactical genius would have been able to change what was obviously wrong during the game.

If it was obvious that Krul coming on might be better for penalties for any reason, then no genius, just common sense. Same for the height thing. I would do the same thing, any advantage, even the psychological one of making the opposition think, "what's all this about?"

Guess that make me a tactical genius too. Doesn't take much does it?

It will be interesting to see how many points he can get from penalty shoot outs after he draws in the prem.

Rumours today that van Gaal wants to bring his 3-4-3 to Trafford Borough:

------------------------------------de Gea-----------------------------------------------

--------------Smalling--------------Jones---------------Evans---------------------

Rafael--------------Herrera-----------------Fellaini----------------------Shaw

------------Mata-----------------------------------------------Rooney--------------

------------------------------------van Persie----------------------------------------

I would very much enjoy playing against that back three, but can't see it happening myself.

Van Gaal is too authoritarian in style and will struggle in the medium to long term.

Unfortunately it did Ferguson no harm. I think we have to accept that he is a significant upgrade on Moyes and they will buy some decent players. That will make them more competitive but we will improve too and I have every confidence that they will not be able to match us.

Getting back into the Champion's League is their number one priority as the damage to their reputation and share value if they fail again will be demonstrable, particularly following a large influx of new players and Rooney's mega contract. It would be a lovely thing if this were to happen though as City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and United will all be after those four places. I can see Arsenal, Liverpool and United slugging it out for third and fourth with Liverpool's foray in the CL potentially putting them at a disadvantage given their relatively small squad at this present time.

Honestly, that line up does instill any fear at all.

It's not a bad line-up but the back 3 look vulnerable and bear in mind that's all they've got. Nothing off the bench for central defence that I can think of. Suppose Fletcher/ Carrick might just about do as a stand-ins. They've been used there before but again another case of square pegs in round holes and lacking in pace now as they get older. Using them as stand-ins also reduces their midfield options off the bench. Suppose they have Jiz-jaz but I'm sure they can see now they got carried away with the hysteria over him and offered the big contract too early.

They still need to spend big.

Honestly, that line up does instill any fear at all.

He wont be doing it with that line up though will he? They haven't stopped buying yet. They'll have a couple of top defenders, perhaps Hummels or someone similar

Its great to see that there doing it the Utd way, with all there life long youth team coming through from being 5yrs old etc and not buying a new team...oh wait!!!!

Like it or lump it they will be right in the mix again next season.Moyes was never the right fit there, maybe 30 years ago he would have been just like Ferguson but the game and players have moved on.He never had the confidence of the dressing room but the new man is a different propersition.

With some quality signings and no European distractions people would be mad to write them off.

Our first team and squad is better at the moment if we can hang on to and keep our best players fit and replace some lesser squad members with better quality we should keep them at arms length.
