Some press reporting Rojo isn't going to get a work permit.

Priceless if true!
As a full International he should regardless of ownership wrangles, this must be related to that assault charge.

Wrong.
The rules relate to non-European players and to be eligible for a work permit, a player must have played in more than 75 per cent of his nations matches in the last two years, and that country must be in the top 70 nations in Fifa’s ranking.
He hasn't played anything like that many.

Well at least he's stopped the rot! #soth

On a more serious note, anyone hear the interview with MK Dons manager on Monday where he was lamenting having to tell key members of his squad that they were being rested for the higher priority league game this weekend.

They didn't just get thrashed by a third tier team. They got thrashed by the third tier team's second string!

This farce is just getting better and better!

Yet another rule they probably could have bent/had bent for them under GPC. Maybe it will turn out that Rojo has been a Utd fan from birth and he can therefore get a work permit on that basis.

Also, as far as I understand it, the PL won't allow any player to be registered if there are 3rd party owners, therefore United have to own him outright in order to register him. If he can't register he can't play, so he won't be eligable for a work permit. If the 3rd party owner won't sign on the dotted line then nothing happens until they are bought out, or the legality of how much the third party is owed is settled at a snails pace in the courts, or, as seems to be the case here both.

The third party may choose not to agree to the transfer at all, but more likely will insist on more money. Oh dear.

I think that rooney's role at that club is actually less to do with football and more to do with commercial exploitation .
He seems to be pretty much the most marketable commodity they have when you consider the collection of personality free , mediocrities that inhabit the swamp.
Every business needs a recognisable image , and since the departure of GPC and the current shortage of trophies ,they are left fairly much with shrek - certainly no Beckham!
They have invested hugely in him as the "face"( again no Beckham) of the club ( seen all over the Far East with noodles, fizzy drinks etc in his mitts) and the fact that he can bend them over and shaft them royally seems to bear this out - it's surely not because of his breathtaking form on the pitch.

There was a good chunk of thread somehere (this thread? the City and FFP thread?, can't remember!) about this and those with an understanding of these things were saying something along the lines of United depend on Rooney's image rights and when he had his strop they had to pay him to keep the income, but could afford to pay him because of the income. That's probably oversimplified, but roughly accurate. The consequence of that though is that they pretty much have to play in order to make it all work

Should of sold Rooney when they had the chance, would of been a blessing. Welbeck is their best striker, young, full of pace and beans, and hungry but he's getting shafted by Van Gaal.

Mata has no runners (is it any wonder he's dog shite?), Welbeck offers that, but Van Gaal can't see it. Should be Welbeck and 1 of Rooney or Van Persie. Rooney and Van Persie are playing on reputation, I thought Van Gaal had the balls to make the big decisions and give youth it's head? hes just a Moyes wannabe! a definite change of attitude from his first press conference, eh? now he "hopes" United finish in the top 4.. Moyes got a witch hunt for similar comments.. Van Gaal has a reputation in other countries but that will only get him so far in England it's a completely different league.

The best thing that could happen to United is Van Persie to turn into glass and a perma-crock again.

For his faults Mr Ferguson knew it.
