Their wage bill is going to surpass ours soon, pretty sure.

It'd be lovely for them to miss out on top 4, but you can't underestimate how much no European football benefits you as the season goes on, as Liverpool showed last year. United are also out of the League Cup so they're going to have a very relaxed schedule all season and will face top teams who have accumulated a lot more fatigue/injuries.

Ahh but those teams you talk of have also better experience of playing tough games against top opposition.
swings both ways tbh.

They will be in the CL next season. They will just spend more in Jan if they are struggling.

I foresee a right fucking demolition of QPR this weekend.

SCUM......
For the love of god I hope not!. I will be visiting church before any game the twats play, praying for the twats to be hammered.

Hang on a minute, does it really matter if they do batter QPR, they have bought beyond a rags wildest dreams and they are playing a team of average players.
If they don't win I expect big questions being asked by the journo's....... but it hardly means they have turned the corner and will be top four by Christmas.

They should be winning the league for the money they've spent. Talk of them not finishing in the top 4 is unrealistic

Last 4 years net spending
Utd: Between 270m and 350m
City: Between 90m and 120m
Can you see them finishing above City, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool?

Stability and spending should produce results, but if they make the wrong managerial aoppointments and panic then they could mess it up

They still need defenders.

I can definitely see them finishing above Arsenal and Liverpool. I think they will challenge for the title - they should do. Their defense might not be great but the main thing holding them back atm is LVG and his 3/5 at the back.
When they change to

-----------------De Gea
Rafael------Jones----Rojo----Shaw
---------------Herrera--Blind
Di Maria---Rooney/Mata---Januzaj
------------Falcao/RVP/Rooney

or a City-eque
-----------------De Gea
Rafael------Jones----Rojo----Shaw
---------------Herrera--Blind
-----------Mata------------Di Maria
---------------Falcao---Rooney

they should have enough to mount a title challenge.

They only have the League to concentrate on. That defense is as good or as bad as Liverpool's was last year

No,but I can see them finishing above Leicester.

They may have some good players now,but do they have a team ?? nahhhhhhhh.

The really important number I have not seen mentioned anywhere (for 2013-2014 actuals and next year's forecast) is net profit as this is the true measure of long term viability for any business but particularly for a quoted company. EBITDA is a profitability performance indicator but crucially does not - as the name suggests - take any account of tax or depreciation and amortisation of player contracts which will be highly significant for 2013-2014 and of course given the "massive" signings of this summer - even more so for the current financial year. Apologies if this has been mentioned somewhere and I have missed it but all the press releases I have seen today seem to bury this highly important statistic. This fact should not surprise anyone.
An acid test for any publicly traded business in the long term is the performance of the company's share price. Interestingly the shares I believe are down about 13% since July and I see are down a further 3% today based on their press release. Another 2% drop would take the share price to a 20 month low. The market is getting nervous - tick tock.
Apologies, Just re-read one of the press releases and key net profit figure is given but is down 84% to £24 million. Should get extremely interesting if they don't make chumps league this year then with the additional amortisation of their expensive acquisitions and their projected decrease in revenue.

Some so-called football finance expert on 5 Live earlier, basically saying they were still in excellent nick because of the big new sponsorships.

However, went on to say that the Adidas deal would be cut by £20m if out of CL for 2 years, plus £50m loss of revenue from missing CL. "That £70m would go straight to the bottom line".

Well no. That would go to the TOP line, you fcukwit. Of course the interviewer was too thick to pick him up.

If I was being neutral I would qiute like the look of those two sides.

If all our full - backs were out in a car and it was hit by a drunk driver and we lost any two of them then Rafael and Shaw would certainly be as good as we could hope to get replacements for the two that remained and the quality of the forward players isn't really in question.

Nobody though seems to know what they will get from Blind. Views range from a top quality utility player to the Dutch Phil Neville. Herrera should be good enough once he has settled in. We don't know how long they will persist with three at the back;- the Manager is perceived as being stubborn and I am banking on them being a hell of a long way off the pace before they start to pick up.

I just can't see top four for them.
