Thing is, once united, as a club, offer an unconditional apology about that banner, I reckon we'll all be able to move on, eh chaps?

Look I'm not trying to Wum or anything..but what was wrong with the banner? It's banter right? And for the most part it was a true.
I thought I had explained what was wrong with the banner. It was endorsed by the club. A club that almost certainly wouldn't exist to this day if it wasn't for City's benevolence in the past. A bit of piss-taking is banter, this went way beyond that and stood there as a reminder of their supremacy. That isn't banter, it's ugly gloating, which was given the rubber stamp by the powers that be at united.

Was it the crime of the century? No, but to expect it not to be thrown back in the collective face of those that used it as a stick to beat us with is hopelessly naive.

Don't think about it being merely about the banner, but rather what that banner represented.

Mods...
I think you should put this clown out of his misery before it gets nasty...

I don't think I've done anything to warrant such.

Excellent post, GDM.

But you omitted to mention the one thing that turned City fans - and those of many other clubs, I suspect - against the rags more than anything before.

The odious **** that was their manager for 27 years.

Before GPC arrived, I hated scum because they were our local rivals, but I did despise them like I have since he showed his ugly mug in Trafford.

Indeed, the first scum manager I can remember was one of the most honourable men in football, maybe in all sport, and a former City player. Matt Busby was effusive in his praise and congratulations to Sir Joe when we pipped them to the title in '68 and was happy to do so on national television. I don't think GPC ever uttered one word of congratulations to either the club or Roberto.

That's how much of a small-time **** he is.

My Dad (RIP) was exactly the same. Spending most of his life living, working and socialising in Salford, he had many friends who supported Utd. If ever he couldn't afford an away day with the Blues, he'd go with his workmates from the docks to Old Trafford. I can vividly remember him being pretty gracious when Utd beat Palace in the FA Cup final in 1990. "Keep the cup up North" and all that. He used to regularly send Utd programmes and memorabillia over to one of his mates in Ireland for his young lad.

However there was two people for him that changed his opinion about Utd. Ferguson & Keane. He thought they represented everything that was bad about the game. The bullying, the sneering and general lack of respect they seemed to have for officials, opponents and at times the game itself.

He always maintained that at some point we'd be the dominant team in Manchester again. Of course I never believed it. My fault for believing Ferguson and his "not in my lifetime" statement. He passed away in Nov 2011, so never saw us win the title again. However he did see us win the FA Cup, beating them en-route and the 1-6 at their place. However we were well on our way to proving him right by then.

I knew Id get some abuse ..even the mod warned me..but again it's banter when you do it and it's a wind up when I do it? It's all in good spirit..but at least the abuse could come with real answers and interesting opinions.

No, you're wrong again. You were given the opportunity to withdraw your comment as you said English wasn't your native language, but you stood by your comment.

City fans (or civilised people) do not generally go round calling people a c*** without good reason. Good reason would be the way they conducted themselves either on or off the pitch. For these reasons, Giggs, Rooney, RVP, Ferdinand, Ferguson, Keane, Gary Neville, Evra et al ad infinitum are going to get loads of abuse from City fans and virtually all other football fans, with varying degrees of justification. But you won't find us abusing the likes of Carrick, Fletcher and their ilk.

Likewise, other fans abuse some of our players for their poor conduct. Nasri, Ben Thatcher, De Jongg, Yaya etc. But we don't accept visitors abusing players who conduct themselves impeccably on and off the pitch. For City, I would include Aguero, Kompany, Zabaleta, Silva, Milner, Navas.

To call someone such an insulting name just because he does his job and scores against you regularly is unacceptable. We don't take it as banter. Us ridiculing Phil Jones however, is precisely that - fair banter.

You sure about that?

Most reasonable football fans including City fans would have no reason to call those players a c***. Personally, I never use the word other than to quote someone because I don't swear, but I see it as one of the worst possible insults.

Now you shouldn't align yourself with a particular type of supporter and then claim only to want to discuss football in a friendly manner. The two attitudes are incompatible. In plain language, don't come on here insulting our players and expect to be treated with civility.

Okay fair point i get where you're coming from now...but why wallow in the misery of yesteryear instead of bathing in the current success of your team? What happened happened and couldn't have happened any other way. I just don't think it's progressive to be bringing such things up ..there are more interesting things to talk about.
