united are as certain to get third as City and Chelsea are to get the top two spots imo.

So they fucking should with the cost of that squad and no European football. Quite frankly that's a piss poor return on the investment in what was, two seasons ago, a title winning squad. That this is rarely pointed out in the press is not surprising to those of us familiar with how these things operate.

Certainly doesn't help that Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs have stood aside, held the door open and said "Oh no, after you sir". Forever United's bitches, the lot of them.

Ive been saying for a while now that their last 18 months or so of hilarious and abject failure has been down to one main factor... their previous constant good luck had deserted them and they were finally getting the 'evened out' lucky/unlucky breaks that all other sides are subject to.

I'm sorry to see it now looks like their ridiculous levels of flukey good luck seems to have returned with a vengeance.

I'm not sure I buy into the fact that United were lucky last night, personally I just thought Southampton showed that they are no where near the level required to be a top 4 team

It was a poor game and both sides looked as shaky as the other, but the difference was that Uniteds chances fell to a top class striker, where as Southamptons fell to Shane Long

United were awful again last night, but if City had gone away from home and played like that and still won, id be elated

Well, for one reason, that luck doesn't exist. It's like trying to convince me that fate or destiny exists - none of them do. Southampton missed their chances and United took theirs. I agree tha the difference between the two sides was Southampton had Long who missed absolute sitters because he's just a mid table player and United had van Persie who is a good finisher. Southampton have a poor goalkeeper and United have a good one, one let in two poor goals through his legs (one of which he could have stepped out and caught but didn't bother) and the one on the other team made two good saves.

Both sides were fucking awful though last night and it's a sad state of affairs that those two sides are up there in and around the top 4 in the Prem. Neither would be anywhere near it in La Liga with Madrid Barca Atleti Sevilla and Valencia! I said last night, that this United team will finish third and it will be a reflection at how bad the Prem has become. Two good teams in this league and a dirth of average teams throughout the rest of it, we've not seen that since United and Blackburn were challenging at the top together in the mid 1990s.

No, because they probably will post profit despite spending heavy.
