Re: The Dog & Duck Pub Team (aka United) Thread 2014/15
Agreed, and I am surprised that Marv seams to believe they are.
They are in a hugely flattering position which is not based on the quality of their play, but on the inability of the perennial top half clubs to all be having a poor season (Time will tell whether Southampton and West Ham can sustain their good showing) and an awful lot of luck
There are two standout teams in the league this year and then there is a chasm between them and the rest. To believe Utd can bridge that gap is rediculous based on what we have seen from them. Just look at their results this season and, for the games they won, how unconvincing they have been
SWP's back said:Mate. They were never in it this season.Marvin said:They are not out of the title race. There's so much room for improvement. The standard of their play is way below City and Chelsea yet somehow they are sat in 3rd. How? When you look at their squad, you think they could and should be playing a lot better. Perhaps they will improve in the 2nd half of the season as they made so many changes in the Summer.
I like LVG's honesty in press conferences. I watched his post-match press conference and he's very honest and explains what he saw as the deficiencies, why he made subs etc. I wish more managers had the confidence to do this. He's an impressive operator in front of the media.
However when you consider that he had Falcao, Di Maria, Rooney and RVP on the pitch against a 10 man Villa, and they struggled to create anything of note.....that's very very poor. He's getting a very easy ride from the media. If City had spent £150 m plus and were performing in a similar manner we'd be facing a lot more criticism. I think even Utd fans would admit that they have really been very lucky in recent weeks.
