When a fact and an opinion go head to head, there's only one winner.
Monaco are prepared to state PUBLICLY that the rags have paid £58 m up front for some uncapped teenager. RM have given a minute by minute statement of the rags fuck up.
I said yesterday and have been saying for a while, the turtle will do irreparable damage to the rags.

Rags have played a blinder here.

They get to keep De Gea and will be stronger for it. I reckon they delayed it on purposes in the hope this would happen with them at least being able to tell Real & De Gea that they 'tried'.

They've far from played a blinder. If their intention was to give the impression to De Gea that they were willing to sell but then deliberately sabotaged the deal so they could claim 'they tried' the truth will get back to De Gea and every other pro for that matter and no one will touch the rags with a bargepole - in fact that seems to be already happening.

The moment people realise you are disingenuous and untrustworthy is the moment you can say goodbye to winning business and you are on a slippery slope. Integrity is key in any line of business.

I agree, that's what I was trying to get at with the change of philosophy from a "fourth will do" one to a "lets win the league" one. The amount of money you need to spend in order to jump from 3rd/4th to being a title winner is huge. The financial rewards are not sufficiently higher than 3rd/4th to make the outlay a sound business one, if your only real aim is to maximise the profitability of the business. The Glazers would be happy with a continued return of 3rd/4th place, and the associated Champion's League/Premier League money without the need to invest on quite such a monumental scale.

With the money they have spent over the last 4 years, more than anybody else, I'd have to question that as a mentality.

You can spend much less to finish in 4th. That sort of money should be producing title winning teams.

For me it's not a case of spending even more to bridge the gap from 4th to first, because they have already spent the money to be challenging.

The issue, and it makes me lol, is they have bought absolutely shite players. OK, maybe that's harsh, they've bought some decent players, but not ones that will make them title challengers.

That says to me they have been totally rinsed with their targets and that their transfer policy is a shambles

It's hard, without knowing exactly how the future is going to pan out, to decide who are the winners, and who are the losers, in this whole debacle.

Assuming De Gea refuses to sign a new contract at United, and leaves on a free next summer, then United are certainly losers however. If De Gea also refuses to play for United this season, or Van Gaal sticks to his stubborn guns and won't pick him, then United are even bigger losers.

If De Gea still wants to sign for Real, and hasn't been put off by whatever it is that has happened here, then Madrid are the biggest winners, as they'll get a player they were willing to spend nearly £30m for free in 12 months time. They've got good enough keepers to last them this season in Navas and Casilla.

De Gea is a loser in this who debacle too, best case scenario he ends up playing this coming season at a club he doesn't want to be at, for a manager he dislikes. Worse case scenario, he sits in the stand watching for the entire season, and loses his place in Spain's European Championship squad.

when, with Casillas leaving Madrid for Porto, it's possible he could end up first choice.

Very serious. Surely as a blue you'd rather the rags without De Gea than with him? He's their best player by miles.
He won't play for them.

They've missed out on millions AND a replacement for Romero.

According to redcafe that 80m euros is the equivalent of paying thruppence back in 1867 so when you think about it, it's not actually a lot of money !

As much as I want them to reveal the truth, the english media will censor it, they can't afford to have the "biggest club in england" embarrassed can they?

I think Real Madrid have played a blinder here.

They get him for free next season, and for the whole season the RAG's have an unsettled number 1 to destabilize their season with having to pay De Gea's wages and getting no transfer fee next season. Revenge is a dish best served cold something tells me they did this on purpose for PR reasons and to save face. HAHAHA :)
