So, it's just me that thinks Jose is a good appointment for them?
He's undoubtedly better than the clown they have right now.
Outside of Pep, he's about as close as you can get to appointing a guaranteed winner.
Sure, it's a reactionary move (like just about everything else they've done since the Tevez poster rattled their cage) but it's a damn, good reaction.
Mourinho will play the media and the refs like a violin. If you think that they got away with nefarious doings under Sour Alex, just wait and see.
There's no doubt that there are serious divisions in the ranks over there but unfortunately some if the giant egos involved haven't overshadowed the glaring fact that desperate times call for desperate measures.
They simply can't afford to miss out in Chump's League, next year. Appointing Mourinho may well be an act of desperation to some extent but it is also the last remaining shrewd move from their point of view.
It may well end in tears but they'll get at least the short term boost that they so desperately need from this appointment. He'll win trophies for them and he'll get them Chump's League football too. His obnoxiousness and arrogance are tailor made for that club.
It's not just a good appointment, it's the right appointment, at this juncture. Mourinho is the only card that they could have pulled from the deck, right now, that keeps them in the game.
On the other hand, if Pep replicates his successes at our shop and, in doing so, ruins the Jose Show down the road, it could well leave them swirling around a very dark hole, indeed.

Your last line answers that imo. It's only good if it works almost straight away. If it doesn't then there is a potential for total disaster.

It's a Swales type 'all in' move. And it's short term whatever happens.

Edit: What will be very interesting for me is my old man. For years he's hugely disliked Mourinho personally and as a mangager, as well as the way his teams play the game, most especially their shenanigans. I asked him a while back if he'd give his season ticket up (which he's had for over half a century) if he ever rocked up at united and he told me in pretty unequivocal terms he would. Knowing him as I do, I reckon he'd struggle to give up going to united and I think he will renew. He'll find ways of justifying it to himself. That's not a criticism. They've been a huge party of his life for 75 years and I believe that will prove to be a bigger pull than his feelings of antipathy toward Mourinho. Supporting a football club is a hugely emotional experience and is very difficult to just give up. I guess that's what I'm talking about. It can make hypocrites of us all, me included.
Out of interest GDM how did you start supporting City?

All these rag fans saying he's not their type, absolute nonsense...he's EXACTLY their type. He's arrogant, conceited, quarrelsome, and stamps his feet when things don't go the way he wanted. In short, the rag way.

If he takes over at the swamp we can all be certain sure of the fact that it will end in tears. It always does with Maureen. You wait, the first few weeks of the season and he'll start his usual practice of thinly-veiled attacks on other managers (obviously Pep will get most of it). He'll make outlandish press comments to try and get to Wenger...again, he'll put in the odd media-friendly soundbite every now and again just so that everyone will say: "Oh, he's a rascal, but he's a loveable old rascal", and the media will pamper to his every whim because he's good copy. Then gradually, and inexorably, the seeds of unrest will be sown and the first whispers of discontent will echo throughout the swamp. But of course, this will in no way have anything to do with the Pisscan or the Ticket Tout! Perish the thought.
The media and the players will soon tire of his petty theatrics, the dour, negative football, his ego and his dogged refusal to compromise on any issue will once again prove to be his downfall, and the inevitable parting of the ways will take place with the usual rancour and acrimony. Maureen will ship out with a huge pay cheque and the rags will once again be looking for the next 'chosen one'.

I disagree with this. Jose has been a busted flush for a few seasons now. He won the title 2 years ago in large part because we did what we do... Capitulated. That's not a criticism of city, or Pelligrini, or txiki, it's just a fact. We as good as handed it to him.

He was found out last season. He had it all at Chelsea.. The club 'forced' to go cap in hand to him (like Utd have now), a budget to sign whomever he wants (he won't have that at Utd), and a season where city had a manager treading water, Utd had a fool for a manager, Arsenal were just Arsenal, etc.

Nobody could legislate for Leicester this season but he was t just beaten by Leicester, he was overtaken by scores of clubs.

His style of play has been found out, his reliance on older players won't help him at the shithole, they haven't got any top quality older professionals (or not enough certainly).

Other than giggs this is the perfect appointment for us.

They won't be signing any superstars, they won't go there when pep and the London clubs are a more attractive proposition. He will likely put the fabled youth policy on the back burner at a time when the CFA is just about to really come into its own.

I honestly believe this appointment is their "Malcolm Allison the second time" moment (no disrespect to big Mal, the man is a god in this house and rightly so).

Keep watching blues, we are about to make the last few years look like a relegation battle.

They are fucked.

I absolutely love the fact Mourinho is coming to United. Can't wait hearing his sly digs as how City don't have any history or his usually idiotic comments about Pep, and that what a wonderful club he is leading, then of course he will get spanked 3-0 twice a season by us. Then this on a repeat. All them rag fanboys will wet themselves at the idea of Mourinho and his childish comments about City.

Meanwhile, we'll get the results, and everyone will be happy. Sort of. :)

The problem with Mourinho's childish comments is the media lap them up. If they're directed at us they will fucking love it.

The first thing he'll have to do is get shut of Giggs. The family man has coveted that job for too long to sit there with his cold dead eyes and say nothing. He will be whispering in corners and leaking things to the media. It will be utterly fucking toxic.

If he's winning no, if he's struggling, nailed on.
When he shouted at Martinez whilst he was speaking to the press after Everton beat them, Martinez just turned to the reporter and went 'He was so nice last year when they won here'.
Man's a knob. A few years ago it was moderately entertaining but nah. Knob.

He was, but last season will not be easy for him to recover from. The mystique might have gone for ever.
