They should have listened to bobby Charlton, he knew jose was a busted flush.

My guess is that Sir Combover was the one person in the swamp hierarchy for whom risk to club reputation outweighed the chance of short term success. He was the most prescient in a boardroom devoid of strategic thinking.

While there were some warning signs, it wasn’t evident at the time that Maureen was a busted flush.

Just my opinion, of course.

IIRC, there were several prominent Bluemooners of similar expedient bent to the rag board.

Great post. Been saying the same for a while.

Last financial year nearly £50m cash went out in debt servicing and dividends. Making enough money to sustain those payments is their number one priority, not winning the league, which has marginal financial benefit. Winning the CL is significant financially but the Glazers wouldn't sanction the level of investment that would be needed for them to do that. They'll only spend significantly to get back in the top four because that gives them CL revenue of at least £40m a season and stops them losing some commercial revenue that's performance-based. I've heard, from a couple of good contacts, about the battles Baconface/Gill had with the Glazers over money and the subterfuge they had to employ to get more out of them. One Baconface walked (and that was over money) they lost a manager able to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. I even believe that recommending Moyes was Baconface effectively saying to them "If you want someone to work on a budget then this is the guy".

The performance targets in their accounts talk about finishing in the top 3 in the PL, getting to the last 16 of the CL and reaching the quarter finals of the domestic cups. And if they do that, they've achieved their minimum objective.

Very interesting so they are basically a drone of a club ,happy to float about taking whatever they can grab.

I've found a daily mail article from last month that states that they have spent £627 million since slur Alex left.

Since 2013 utd have spent 640.6m.
Since 2013 we have spent 659.5m.
In the same period we've finished 1st, 2nd, 4th and 3rd in the league and utd in the same period finished 7th, 4th, 5th and 6th.
Both teams have won 3 trophies in the same period.
We have 2 x league cup and the premier league.
They have 1 FA cup, 1 league cup and the Europa league.
Since taggart went we're on our 2nd manager.
Since taggart went they are on their 4th manager.
Currently we are 12 points clear at the top and undefeated in 19 games, won 18 and drawn 1 and have a plus 48 goal difference.
Currently they are 2nd, trailing us by 12 points, drawn 4 and lost 3 and have plus 27 goal difference.
I think it's safe to say that we're in a much better place than them lot, the last 5 years speak for themselves.
