At the swamp of course - they are so desperate to relive their past as they cannot stand their present and fear for their future - quite pathetic really and counter productive as the more it rekindles memories of the glory days the more it throws into sharp relief how shit the football is that they are playing

Exactly.

A reminder of what they were and will never be again is no palliative.

Cantona exists in their memory as a young dynamic player, the old crock who'll take to the pitch, ambling around in a pathetic parody of his pomp, is a perfect metaphor for their ossified club.
