The thing is, given where United have been the last few years, if they were to finish runners up - to anyone, not just City - that could be portrayed as a serious triumph. We're looking at today as though they're head to head with City. I'm not so sure Mourinho sees it that way. He's playing his own league to get as many points as he can, and doesn't give a stuff about how City do.
If you think of it that way, then a point at Anfield represents a fine result, no matter how achieved.
