United thread 2018/19

I'm convinced it was his lack of footballing intelligence and ability that ruined his career.

The career of Phil Jones is a complete mystery. Even a lot of United fans accept that he is essentially a championship level player. Mind you the fact that Danny Mills got England caps says it all.

It's almost like the signing of Phil Jones (for what was it, £16m?) was one of those iffy deals you hear whispers about where everyone gets bunged a few quid in a paper bag and the only one who doesn't know what's afoot, gets to plod along merrily, thinking he's there on merit.
Couldn't be though. Not with managers if such high esteem - who have no connections to anyone in the world of dodgy deals, whatsoever - involved.
It had to be all about the football.

It's getting to the point where I feel a bit bad for the actual Duncan Edwards by association. He's more famous for being a meme than a talented player who tragically died. Also, every Phil Jones performance does make me increasingly sceptical about whether the real Edwards was any good or not, which isn't very fair

That's mental. The daft thing is that I never realised his ball control skills were so bad before he signed for United. While I don't watch him every week, I had him down as a very good player and he often caused us real problems. He scored a fantastic goal against us at our place for Everton in Pep's first season when he turned someone on the half way line (might've been Clichy) and finished with aplomb

Was Stones. I was screaming at him don’t dive in, there was no cover. He did and wasn’t strong enough to take him out. Clichy came across to cover I think but couldn’t stop the goal. Great finish in fairness.

Lukaku at 16 for anderlecht had all the tools to be the actual next big thing. He chose the wrong clubs after that. Chelsea at that time loved breaking back to front with a long ball to a powerful striker. Everton were the same and rags are a high paid stoke of old. For me he thrives off ball on the deck between cb & lb. Before putting weight on he had speed, strength & good touch and in confidence was a quality finisher. Shame under a pep, sarri, emery even klopp he would be twice the player and banging 30+ a season regularly.
