The common consensus of opinion is that jose’s experience at real is what changed him into the miserable old git we see before us today. Does anyone know what exactly happened there?

I dunno. Have you seen any of the comments from their thick fans? But it might be bad PR when they're trying to sign players in the future. Who'd want to work for an employer like that?I'm not sure that footballers count as regular employees with those rights. The size/nature of their contracts etc. might mean that they're employed via different means than a regular contract of employment so as to avoid paying national insurance etc. Either way, if you're Man Utd and you're looking a reasons to punish him in this situation, then I think you've already lost the battle with the player and from a PR perspective. I'm sure all it would have taken is one person at the club to ring him a day or 2 after the birth and ask how he's getting on and when he'll be back. They must have known he was expecting a child during pre-season a long time ago, which makes their aggressive behaviour even stranger.
Supposedly Jose is claiming that this was all planned more than 9 months ago.
There has got to be more to it than that. He had at least two seasons back in the uk before pep arrived and he has had a face like a smacked arse straightaway. There was the eye gorging incident during an el Classico. The fact that Pep is a far superior individual in every way can't be helping.
It's not just football in which Pep holds the upper hand: he acts with a quiet dignity, an air of sophistication about him. He is a very very stylish man, respected by his peers and loved by many - not just by us and Barca fans.
Maureen's reputation is in tatters. He is generally disliked wherever he goes, even by his own club supporters. He is churlish, petulant and appears to be suffering with the Napoleon complex.
Pep could walk into ANY managerial position he chooses. Maureen could not.
As far as I'm aware, professional footballers are employess of the club and should be taxed under PAYE/NIC on their earnings. As employees, they are also covered under UK employment legislation for such things as SSP, SPP, etc. It's when to get to such things as image rights, EBTs, etc, that rules become more "elastic", which causes much more interest from HMRC specialists.
